Women's World Cup Betting: England and Australia Meet Wednesday for a Spot in the Final

The first finalist was determined on Tuesday, with Spain beating Sweden 2-1. Their opponents will be determined in the other semi final between England and Australia.

This match will kick off on Wednesday at 6:00 AM Eastern time, and will not be one to miss with a place in the final on the line.

All Women's World Cup odds come from FanDuel Sportsbook.

Australia (+120) vs. England (-148)

Australia had to hold a dangerous France side without goal over 120 minutes in their last match to get to this stage. They shut the door after a good goalkeeping performance from Mackenzie Arnold and won the ensuing penalty shootout.

The host nation did concede 2.0 expected goals (xG) in that match, according to FBRef. That is somewhat to be expected against a team with a dangerous attack like France's. Australia was able to create 1.6 xG on their own, though, and the battle for possession was dead even at 50-50.

Australia was on a good run of goal-scoring before that match, with nine goals in their previous three matches. Much of that was without their best striker, Sam Kerr, who should be involved more in this match.

Kerr missed all of the group stage due to injury before making her return in the Round of 16. She played just 10 minutes in that game as the result was already in hand for Australia. She came off the bench in the 55th minute in the quarterfinal, and with the game going to extra time, she played 65 minutes.

She may be able to start this match, which would be a huge boost for the Matildas. Kerr has been one of the best players in the Women's Super League in England for the past three seasons, scoring 89 goals in 108 games for Chelsea. A fully-fit Kerr makes Australia a lot more dangerous.

England had an easier matchup than anticipated in the quarterfinals. They faced a Colombia team that was unfancied heading into the tournament. It wasn't as easy as they might have expected -- they went a goal behind before scoring twice -- but in the end, it was fairly comfortable.

They overcame the absence of Lauren James, who had been one of England's best players in the tournament. They had 1.5 xG to just 0.5 for Colombia, and England held a 60-40 possession edge.

James will be suspended for this game, as well, which could be a bigger deal against a tougher opponent. Ella Toone played in her spot, and while she's definitely a talented player, Toone hasn't had the best tournament.

When it gets down to these final stages of tournaments, teams tend to tighten up, and games tend to be a bit lower-scoring. England have had trouble scoring in a lot of their games in this tournament, and they are without their leading scorer.

I'd be looking to play this match as a low-scoring affair. You can get +150 on under 1.5 goals. If you pair that with England to advance in a Same Game Parlay, you'll get +312, which will pay out if England wins on penalties. You can also get +550 on England winning exactly 1-0.

This won't be an easy match for England, but they should have enough to get them over the line.
