NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Friday 2/9/24

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.
Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Using our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, let's take a look at today's slate to find a goalie, some stacks, and value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.
NHL DFS Picks
Goalie to Target
Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins ($7,900)
With just three games on the slate, the best goalie to target for tonight is Tristan Jarry.
The Pittsburgh Penguins' starting goaltender has had a strong campaign despite the team's struggles. Jarry has a 14-14-4 record, which best shows where the Penguins are in the season thus far. It turns, however, when looking at his impressive 2.45 goals against average and .916 save percentage. He's got the most shutouts in the NHL (6) and ranks fifth with 17.49 goals saved above expectation, as well.
Pittsburgh will be facing a Minnesota Wild team that has not been a good offensive team for much of the year. The Wild have averaged 2.90 goals per 60 minutes and a 20th-ranked 59.77 Corsi per 60 minutes. It's a team that can get their chances enough (29.43 Shots For per 60 minutes) but can't do much more, making them a perfect matchup for Jarry tonight.
Our projections have Jarry expected to finish with 19.7 FanDuel points.
Stack
Edmonton Oilers
There's no team with better potential than the Edmonton Oilers tonight.
numberFire's heat map has the Oilers with a huge 3.98 implied total -- easily the best of the day and should lead them to some gaudy scoring numbers if all goes right against the Anaheim Ducks.
Edmonton no longer has to worry about maintaining the winning streak after it was snapped earlier this week. Instead, they can do their best to get back on track with a game that favors them in every way. Their offensive numbers are among the best in the league; they rank fifth in both Corsi For per 60 minutes (64.98) and goals per 60 minutes (3.43). The Oilers should be a real problem for the Ducks as a result.
Anaheim is allowing the seventh-most goals against per 60 minutes (3.36) in the NHL. Combine that with an ugly 64.5 Corsi against per 60 minutes to confirm this matchup very well may be a nightmare for them but a blessing for DFS lineups.
Stacking this lineup is easier than most. You're going to look at Connor McDavid ($9,900) and his linemates Zach Hyman ($9,200) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ($7,500) as the top option considering their roles. They, along with Leon Draisaitl ($9,300), are the top-four projected skaters on the slate.
Value Skaters
Erik Karlsson, D, Pittsburgh Penguins ($6,000)
Erik Karlsson has been his usual offensive self this season, and he's a good value for the slate tonight.
In his first season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Karlsson has recorded 7 goals, 28 assists, and 35 points through 47 games. He's been the top defenseman on the team all season, and his role is why we are considering him a value.
The defenseman is averaging 24:23 time on ice (TOI) thanks to his involvement on the top power-play unit also, giving him all the usage to trust him tonight on the back end.
Our projections have Karlsson finishing with 13.8 FanDuel points -- the second-best among defensemen on the slate.
Alexis Lafreniere, W, New York Rangers ($5,300)
The former first overall pick has finally had a breakout that the New York Rangers have been looking for.
Alexis Lafreniere has scored 13 goals while dishing out 17 assists, good for 30 points on the season. The winger has averaged 2.59 shots per game and has played 17:17 time on ice -- both of which are career-highs.
Playing on the second line with Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck has done him a lot of good and his spot on the second power play is enough to get behind him for tonight. The Rangers will face the Chicago Blackhawks, who are allowing 3.46 goals against per 60 minutes. This is the best spot to get Lafreniere.
Lafreniere is expected to finish with 11.2 FanDuel points tonight, per our projections.
