Fantasy Football: 4 Breakout Players to Prioritize in 2026

Breakout Players in Summary
- Omarion Hampton, RB, Chargers
- Emeka Egbuka, WR, Buccaneers
- Luther Burden III, WR, Bears
- Jaxson Dart, QB, Giants
Every fantasy football season produces a handful of players who make the leap from intriguing upside picks to massive difference-makers. Identifying those breakout candidates before draft day can be one of the best ways to gain an edge, especially when their potential isn't fully reflected in ADP.
The best breakout targets usually combine talent with a growing role, increased opportunity, or an improving offensive environment.
With that in mind, here are four players who could take a major step forward in 2026 fantasy football.
All ADP references come from FantasyPros' half-PPR ADP, and ADP may change after this article is published.
Breakout Fantasy Football Players to Target
Omarion Hampton, RB, Chargers
ADP: 16th overall (RB10)
The market is clearly expecting a big year out of Omarion Hampton as he’s going in the second round, but I think he can outperform that lofty ADP.
Hampton’s rookie season was interrupted by injuries, but his production when available provided plenty of reasons for optimism. He rushed for 545 yards and four touchdowns on 124 carries across nine games, averaging 4.4 yards per attempt. Hampton also contributed 32 receptions for 192 yards and another touchdown, which is an encouraging receiving profile and points to him being a running back with three-down upside.
That works out to 737 yards from scrimmage in only nine games, and Hampton showed his ceiling with 128 rushing yards against the Giants while also recording multiple games with at least five receptions.
The Los Angeles Chargers have brought in Mike McDaniel to run the offense, creating additional intrigue around a talented back who can contribute as both a runner and receiver.
If Hampton stays healthy, a significant Year 2 jump is very realistic, and he has the tools to finish as an elite-level RB1.
Emeka Egbuka, WR, Buccaneers
ADP: 40th overall (WR18)
Similar to Hampton, Emeka Egbuka enters 2026 with fantasy managers expecting pretty big things — I think he can outdo those expectations.
He came remarkably close to a 1,000-yard season as a rookie, finishing with 63 receptions for 938 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 14.9 yards per catch and produced 20 receptions of at least 20 yards, showing that he can create explosive plays rather than relying entirely on short-area volume.
The exciting part for 2026 is that Egbuka has a chance to make a leap after an already productive rookie campaign. He's entering his second season with Baker Mayfield and should remain one of the focal points of Tampa Bay's passing attack, one that is now without veteran Mike Evans, leaving a lot of targets up for grabs.
A fairly modest increase in targets could push Egbuka comfortably past 1,000 yards and put him in position to make the jump from useful fantasy receiver to true WR1.
Luther Burden III, WR, Bears
ADP: 55th overall (WR23)
Luther Burden III‘s final rookie numbers don't fully capture how encouraging his finish to the season was.
He caught 47 passes for 652 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games, averaging a strong 13.9 yards per reception despite starting only five contests. He became much more involved late in the year, including an eight-catch, 138-yard performance in Week 17.
Burden's opportunity could be substantially better in 2026 following D.J. Moore‘s departure. Over the Chicago Bears' final eight games of last season, including the playoffs, Burden posted a 26.0% target rate and averaged 2.4 yards per route run.
With Burden positioned for a larger role alongside Rome Odunze and another year of development for Caleb Williams in Ben Johnson's offense, there are plenty of ingredients for a Year 2 breakout.
Jaxson Dart, QB, Giants
ADP: 90th overall (QB11)
Jaxson Dart already showed why his rushing ability gives him such an attractive fantasy ceiling during his rookie season.
In 14 games and 12 starts, Dart threw for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 487 rushing yards and nine scores on 86 carries. Those nine rushing touchdowns are particularly important for fantasy purposes, as quarterbacks capable of consistently producing on the ground have a much easier path to QB1 production.
There is still plenty of room for Dart to develop as a passer after averaging 6.7 yards per attempt as a rookie, but he also threw only five interceptions on 339 attempts. With a full offseason as the Giants' established starter, Dart should be in a much better position to take another step in Year 2. Even a modest improvement through the air combined with his rushing production could turn him into one of 2026's better fantasy quarterback values.

Fantasy Football Breakout Players FAQ
What is a breakout player in fantasy football? A breakout player is someone who significantly exceeds previous fantasy production and expectations. Breakouts often come from young players earning larger roles, improving offenses, or players who have shown strong efficiency but have not yet received enough volume.
What should you look for in a fantasy football breakout candidate? Opportunity is one of the biggest factors. Increased snaps, touches, targets, red-zone work, and a favorable depth-chart situation can all point toward a potential breakout, especially when the player has already shown strong underlying efficiency.
Are second-year players good breakout targets in fantasy football? They can be. Second-year players often benefit from a full NFL season of experience and may be ready to take on larger roles. However, fantasy managers should still focus on each player's projected workload and offensive situation rather than assuming every second-year player will improve.
When should you draft breakout candidates? That depends on ADP and how secure the player's role appears to be. Some breakout candidates are worth targeting in the middle rounds, while more speculative players with uncertain workloads are better suited for the later rounds.
