3 MLB Studs to Target for Monday 8/7/23

Hitting on value plays in MLB DFS on FanDuel can make or break a lineup on any given day, but locking in strong performances with some of baseball's star players provides the backbone for any good DFS lineup.

These stars rightly come with high salaries as they usually live up to expectations and have the ability to outclass their peers at their position.

Here are three studs to target for Monday's main slate.

Logan Webb, SP, San Francisco Giants ($10,000)

Logan Webb of the San Francisco Giants appears to be in a favorable spot on the road to start the baseball week. Set for a night game against the Los Angeles Angels, who are notably winless since last week's trade deadline, Webb has a solid chance to labor deep into the contest.

In 2023, Webb is inducing ground balls at a staggering rate of 60.6% -- which allows him to keep his pitch count down while working efficiently. His style typically translates well as Webb has pitched 148.2 total innings on the season (third-highest), which will likely inflate to tops in the Majors after tonight's start.

For Monday night's tilt with the Halos, Webb shows the sixth-highest DFS projection at 32.7 FanDuel points, according to numberFire. This is a projection I feel confident in when reviewing Webb's crucial numbers, such as his SIERA (3.14) and K% (24.7%).

Lastly, the Angels have had somewhat of an offensive power outage since August started. They are 0-6 in the month and have only twice scored more than three runs over the losing streak. Even at home, Webb may be a tough matchup for the Halos to get right against.

Corey Seager, SS, Texas Rangers ($4,300)

When healthy, Corey Seager has been peppering the baseball all around the field in 2023. Since returning to the Texas Rangers from his last IL stint on August 2nd, he has already collected five hits in four games played, highlighted by three homers. Seager's 1.055 season OPS is the top mark on the club.

Tonight, Seager is scheduled for a trip out west against the division rival Oakland Athletics. For the A's, they will start southpaw hurler Ken Waldichuk, who has endured a fairly rough 2023 campaign. This season, Waldichuk is yielding a 6.52 ERA -- the worst of any starting pitcher on Monday.

In the opening contest of the three-game series, Seager has a DFS projection of 16.0 points at numberFire. That is the second-best figure among tonight's infielders and third-best among all batters.

As an added boost, it should be nice hitting weather in Oakland. With temperatures expected to be in the upper-70s at first pitch, leaning on Seager and the offensive juggernaut Rangers (scoring an MLB-best 5.79 runs per game).

Justin Turner, 1B/3B, Boston Red Sox ($3,300)

In his 15th campaign at the MLB level, Justin Turner is still doing damage at the plate. It is still a little jarring to see him as a member of the Boston Red Sox after all those years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Turner has transitioned to the American League quite well.

Sporting a .359 wOBA on the season, Turner is still showing quality bat control. He is hitting .287 at the moment and has hit safely in 24 of his past 26 games played. Also, his 71 RBI in 2023 is the second-most on the Bo-Sox.

Among Monday's slate, the Red Sox show the highest run total projection (5.57) of all 24 teams in action, per numberFire. Not only is Boston a potent offensive squad (ninth-highest scoring team in the Majors), but they are facing lefty Cole Ragans, who is making his second start since being traded to the Kansas City Royals.

Additionally, the game will be played at the lively Fenway Park, which always affords right-handed hitters like Turner the luxury of utilizing the "Green Monster" in left field.

Lastly, Boston is fairly proficient when facing lefties. Through the current season, the Red Sox have a team OPS of .793 and a walk rate of 10.4% in the split. Simply, it seems Turner will stand a good chance to be in myriad advantageous positions on the field.
