3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Thursday 9/7/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.

Carlos Rodon, P, New York Yankees ($7,400)

The dart throws of all dart throws, but if you're trying to find value at pitcher tonight, Carlos Rodon is your best bet.

The first season for the key New York Yankees' signing of this past offseason has been nothing short of a letdown after Rodon had to miss half the season due to injury, and then once he finally returned, he was bad, quite frankly. Rodon's numbers over 42 2/3 innings are forgettable -- 5.70 ERA, 5.45 SIERA, and 6.64 FIP.

But things have been getting better in his last few starts, which means we can feel better about using Rodon, especially at the $7,400 tag that he carries into his start tonight.

He'll be taking on the Detroit Tigers, who have one of the worst offenses in all of baseball. Their .296 wOBA ranks second to last in the league while their 24.3% strikeout rate is among the 10 highest. The Tigers have one of the worst implied totals on the night at 3.61.

Rodon has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his past three starts -- two of which came against the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays.

numberFire's model has Rodon projected for 25.6 FanDuel points on the night.

Josh Naylor, 1B, Cleveland Guardians ($3,000)

Josh Naylor provides a spark for the Cleveland Guardians and is a top value for lineups on today's slate.

The Guardians' first baseman has had an under-the-radar quality season. In 99 games, Naylor has 15 home runs to go with career-high numbers in wOBA (.350), batting average (.305), and OPS (.837). The ISO is at a respectable .189, as well.

His numbers go up against righties, which is a good sign as the Los Angeles Angels send out Griffin Canning.

Canning has had a fine season for the Angels but is someone who shouldn't bother Naylor too much. The righty has a 4.30 ERA and 4.30 FIP while allowing 19 home runs over his 20 games (18 starts). Naylor shouldn't worry too much about Canning's 26.8% strikeout rate as he's struck out just 14.5% of the time -- he puts the ball in play.

Naylor is one of the top projected bats on the night, per numberFire, as their model has him finishing with 12.4 FanDuel points.

Eddie Rosario, OF, Atlanta Braves ($2,800)

Anytime you can get a piece of the Atlanta Braves' offense, you should do it. Especially today. That's why Eddie Rosario enters tonight as a great value.

Rosario was red-hot in August, and while he hasn't fully carried that to September through his first five games, he has still been swinging a good bat over his last 30 games. He's hitting to a .289 clip with four home runs, six doubles, one triple, and a .868 OPS in that span.

On the year, Rosario has 20 home runs and a .336 wOBA (his best since 2018). The outfielder follows a powerful top five in the Braves' lineup, setting him up to hit with guys on base -- especially with Atlanta having the top implied total on the day at an incredible 6.19.

The matchup comes against Adam Wainwright. Wainwright has been a disaster in his 18th season as his 8.10 ERA, 5.90 FIP, and stunningly low 11.1% strikeout rate paint the picture perfectly. The 42-year-old has allowed four or more runs in 10 of his 18 starts.

The Braves should erupt, and Rosario can get in on the fun.
