3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target for Tuesday 8/29/23

Hitting on value plays in MLB DFS on FanDuel can make or break a lineup on any given day, but locking in strong performances with some of baseball's star players provides the backbone for any good DFS lineup.

These stars rightly come with high salaries as they usually live up to expectations and have the ability to outclass their peers at their position.

Here are three studs to target for today's main slate.

All advanced statistics come from FanGraphs. All projections via numberFire.

George Kirby, P, Seattle Mariners ($10,800)

It doesn't get much better for pitchers this year than a matchup against the Oakland Athletics, and pitchers don't get much better this season than Seattle Mariners stud George Kirby.

The second-year starter has shown off immaculate control this season, walking batters at the lowest rate among all qualified starters by a significant margin. His 2.3% walk rate is over a full percentage point lower than the league's next-best pitcher at avoiding walks, Zach Eflin (3.5%).

Kirby's 3.67 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) is the 13th-best rate in the Majors this year. He's been tough to score on and is allowing the long ball at the 18th-lowest rate (0.98 per 9 innings), as well. He has allowed more than three earned runs in just 6 of his 25 starts so far this season and looks like a safe bet to keep his opponent off the scoreboard for much of tonight's contest.

The A's rank 26th in the league in wRC+. They strike out a lot -- their 24.7% K rate ranks fifth-highest-- and they have the lowest slugging percentage (.364).

A pitcher of Kirby's caliber should have little trouble dispatching the batters he'll face tonight against Oakland.

Matt Olson, 1B, Atlanta Braves ($4,700)

Fun things happen when the hottest offense in baseball visits the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The first game of the Atlanta Braves' series against the Rockies was explosive, resulting in a 14-4 win for Atlanta. We'll hopefully see more of the same tonight as they square off against right-hander Peter Lambert.

Matt Olson, whose 43 homers lead the National League, is in a smash spot here. He's in good position to match Shohei Ohtani's MLB-high 44 homers. With Ozzie Albies back in the lineup now, the Braves' offense should be firing on all cylinders, too. Olson's 112 RBI lead the Majors by a wide margin -- Kyle Tucker's 97 RBI rank second -- and he could further pad his lead in that category with another start against the Rockies.

On the mound for Colorado tonight will be Peter Lambert, whose home stadium has been unkind to him. The 26-year-old right-hander has given up a .975 OPS at home this year, allowing opposing batters to amass a .617 SLG in those efforts.

Yordan Alvarez, OF, Houston Astros ($3,900)

Houston Astros star Yordan Alvarez broke open last night's game against the Boston Red Sox, launching a three-run homer to kick off a six-run sixth inning. He'll face off against those same Sox later tonight and is projected for the sixth-most FanDuel points (14.8) on tonight's slate.

Alvarez' 2023 season hasn't quite met last year's ridiculous marks, but the star still has an outstanding .954 OPS on the season despite dealing with injuries throughout the year. His August, which started off slowly, has since turned around, too. He has 12 RBI in his last seven games to go with a 1.052 OPS in that span.

He's heating up just in time for the fantasy playoffs and could be a stud for your FanDuel lineups tonight.
