3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Monday 8/28/23

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.
This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.
The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out numberFire's daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.
Today is a Coors Field day between the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves, so while you should of course look at those lineups, we will focus on three other teams since we don't need to tell you what you already know there.
Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.
Baltimore Orioles
Implied Total: 5.33 | Opposing Pitcher: Michael Kopech (RHP)
The Baltimore Orioles are trying to fight off the Tampa Bay Rays and will kick off the week against the lowly Chicago White Sox and their starter, Michael Kopech.
Once a hopeful prospect, Kopech has turned into a near disaster on the mound this season. Through 24 starts, the 27-year-old is wearing every bit of his 5.36 SIERA and jaw-dropping 6.52 FIP. Nothing is going right for the former fireballer; his fastball velocity is down 2.4 mph from a year ago, according to Baseball Savant, which only takes away from what was once a good mix for Kopech. This should be a matchup that the Orioles take advantage of all night.
When you want to kick off the Orioles stack, look no further than Anthony Santander ($3,500), who has been rolling over the last few games. Santander is riding a six-game hitting streak which has featured three home runs and five RBIs. He's rocking right now and should be in lineups tonight. He's the highest-projected batter for the O's at 15.7 FanDuel points, per numberFire.
Ryan Mountcastle ($3,100) comes in second in terms of projections with 14.8 FanDuel points. Mountcastle is having one of his best seasons to date as he has a .342 wOBA and a .481 SLG. The first baseman also has 18 home runs and 64 RBIs. He's worthy of your consideration.
Close out an Orioles stack with any of Gunnar Henderson ($3,600), Cedric Mullins ($3,300), Adley Rutschman ($3,200), and/orAdam Frazier ($2,400).
San Diego Padres
Implied Total: 5.31 | Opposing Pitcher: Adam Wainwright (RHP)
Anytime Adam Wainwright is on the hump this year, you want to look to the team he's going against to put into your lineup. Enter the San Diego Padres.
Despite the great career of Wainwright, the St. Louis Cardinals starter has been simply brutal.
Wainwright has a 8.61 ERA, 5.74 SIERA, 6.02 FIP, and a disastrous 11.6% strikeout rate. Life without Yadier Molina behind the plate has not been kind to Wainwright in any way. In three of his last four starts, he's allowed at least six runs. The math adds up to this being a really good day for the Padres if the recent trend continues.
It should come as no surprise that the guy you'll want in your potential Padres stack is Juan Soto ($3,300).
Soto has in many ways already had a better season than last year; the wOBA and OPS are both up (.380 and .885), but he's also driven in 78 runs compared to the 62 he did in 2022. The lefty slugger is projected for 14.2 FanDuel points.
Other than Soto, picking two or three other hitters from the batch of Fernando Tatis Jr. ($3,700), Manny Machado ($3,400), Ha-Seong Kim ($3,200), and Gary Sanchez ($2,600) should set your DFS lineups for a successful day.
Toronto Blue Jays
Implied Total: 5.14 | Opposing Pitcher: Josiah Gray (RHP)
The Toronto Blue Jays still have one of baseball's best lineups (.323 wOBA), and they'll be looking to tee off against Josiah Gray and the Washington Nationals.
Gray was an All-Star for the Nationals this season, but his underlying numbers should tell you that this is a matchup that the Blue Jays will be taking advantage of at home. The righty has a respectable 3.85 ERA -- a number that is far better than his 5.12 SIERA that he's been sporting for most of the season. Gray also doesn't strikeout batters a ton (19.9% strikeout rate) and has an inflated 4.91 FIP. That should work out just fine for Toronto to take advantage.
The Blue Jays will look to Vladimir Guerrero ($3,100) and Bo Bichette ($3,200) to power the offense as they so often have this season. Guerrero has boasted better power numbers in the second half, posting seven home runs in 39 games along with a .181 ISO. He's in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak while also having hit a home run in two of his last three games. The bat is hot for Vladdy, who is projected 11.4 FanDuel points by numberFire.
Bichette is top five in hits (152) and has continued his consistency throughout the 2023 campaign. The .357 wOBA he has is actually his best since his rookie year in 2019, and his OPS of .831 is his best since the shortened 2020 season. There's plenty to like about Bichette, who can still hit a long ball from time to time (18 on the season).
Finish out a Blue Jays stack with Whit Merrifield ($2,800), Brandon Belt ($2,800), Matt Chapman ($2,700), or Daulton Varsho ($2,500).
