The 2020 NFL season is in the rearview mirror and it is time to look ahead to the NFL offseason. While free agency is bound to be an exciting time, the 2021 NFL draft is the event all NFL fans look forward to as the top college talent is selected.
ESPN expert Mel Kiper recently released his latest mock draft and it includes trades for the first time ever. It also includes a lot of surprising moves including the San Francisco 49ers moving up to grab a quarterback in the first round.
San Francisco 49ers Mock Draft
Kiper projects the 49ers to make a trade with the Detroit Lions to acquire the No. 7 overall pick and use it to draft Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. This move would be shocking as there hasn't been much news regarding a change at quarterback for San Francisco.
Recently receiving praise from GM John Lynch, starter Jimmy Garroppolo helped take the 49ers to the Super Bowl just two seasons ago. However, you never know what Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has up his sleeve. If Fields falls to No. 7, the 49ers could take advantage and grab who they hope would be their franchise quarterback.
Kiper had the 49ers selecting Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain in his first mock draft of the offseason. Fields remains a top quarterback prospect after passing for 5,373 yards and totalling 78 touchdowns in his two seasons as a Buckeye.
No matter what, this seems like it'll be an exciting draft for 49ers fans.
