While the competition for the title of top wide receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft class is largely being narrowed down to Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb, Henry Ruggs III could be a true wildcard.
Ruggs lit up the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine with an elite 40-yard dash (4.27 seconds), vertical jump (42 inches) and broad jump (131 inches). An incredible athlete, he could offer a ton of upside at the NFL level, and projections for his landing spot in the draft are all over the place.
Let's take a look at what the experts are predicting for Ruggs.
Henry Ruggs III Draft Projection 2020
As of April 4, Luke Easterling, of USA Today's DraftWire has Ruggs going No. 14 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs are loaded at wideout with Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, and adding Ruggs would give Tom Brady one of the most dangerous receiving corps we've seen in a long time.
As of this Thursday, April 2 update, Walter Cherepinsky of Walter Football projects Ruggs to go only one spot later than Easterling does, mocking him at No. 15 to the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are likely looking for a complement to Courtland Sutton, and having sophomore QB Drew Lock throwing to Sutton, Ruggs and Noah Fant would give the Denver passing game a strong core for years to come.
In his April 1 post-free agency update, Matt Miller of Bleacher Report has Ruggs being drafted as the first wide receiver off the board, ahead of both Lamb and Jeudy. He likes Ruggs to go No. 12 to Jon Gruden and the Las Vegas Raiders, giving the offense a sorely needed WR1.
In version 2.0 of his mock draft, NFL.com's Charles Davis also likes the Denver Broncos to pull the trigger on Ruggs at No. 15, with Jeudy and Lamb both off the board by No. 12.
On ESPN, Mel Kiper continues the trend in version 3.0 of his mock draft, projecting Ruggs to become a Denver Bronco with the No. 15 pick. Todd McShay goes in a different direction in his post-free agency mock, projecting the San Francisco 49ers to pull the trigger on Ruggs with the No. 13 pick, which they acquired from the Indianapolis Colts. The Niners' passing game could use a boost, especially with Emmanuel Sanders gone, and Ruggs would step in alongside Deebo Samuel to create a very interesting big-play duo in the Bay Area.
Henry Ruggs III 2020 NFL Draft Expert Predictions
Denver Broncos: 3
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 1
San Francisco 49ers: 1
Las Vegas Raiders: 1
Overall, the only landing spot being projected by more than one of the highlighted experts above is the Denver Broncos at No. 15, who were picked three times.
