As the 2021 NFL Draft approaches, more experts are putting out a mock draft to project which teams will address their most important needs in the first round.
As it stands, the New York Giants hold the No. 11 pick in the draft and have several holes they need to fill. The Giants are coming off of a 6-10-0 season and have finished a campaign above .500 since 2016.
Giants Mock Draft - Micah Parsons
Keeping that in mind, PFF's Sam Monson has the Giants moving back to No. 15 in the draft by swapping first-round picks with the New England Patriots. Monson then has the Giants getting a steal by drafting Penn State LB Micah Parsons 15th overall.
While Parsons opted out of the 2020 college football season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, his previous track record shows why he's deserving of a first-round selection.
In 26 games with Penn State, Parsons recorded 6.5 sacks and 191 total tackles, of which 18 were for a loss. The linebacker also added 6 forced fumbles and 5 passes defended. Parsons was one of the best linebackers in 2019, according to PFF. They graded him 94.8 for his run defense (1st) and 90.0 for his tackling (T-4th). Assuming that he can still play at this level after taking the season to keep himself healthy, Parsons could make an immediate impact on the Giants' defense.
Parsons has been an All-Big Ten player and was also the 2019 Cotton Bowl Defensive MVP, the same year he won the Butkus–Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year Award. Overall, Parsons just oozes potential and has showcased his ability to improve on a season-to-season basis. Assuming the Giants draft him, Parsons will be a mainstay in New York for years to come.
FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL Draft odds have Parsons as a huge -370 favorite to be the first linebacker drafted.
