Colby Wooden Scouting Report
Colby Wooden saved his best campaign for his final year as an Auburn Tiger. The promising defensive lineman prospect set new career highs in solo tackles (36), tackles for a loss (11.5), sacks (6.0) and broken-up passes (3).
Wooden's 6-foot-4, 273-pound frame should help him find success at the next level. His non-stop motor certainly helps, as do his reliable hands and light footwork. He can also work on the edge or inside, opening the door for NFL coaches to use him in a variety of ways.
As with most prospects, Wooden's game has weak spots. Although he can play on the edge, the moves that he has there are limited. He also sometimes loses track of the ball on rushing plays and has issues getting to ball carriers who get behind him.
Colby Wooden NFL Draft Prediction
Colby Wooden is an exciting defensive prospect who could thrive with more development. While his Auburn career was more than solid, he must improve upon his shortcomings if he wants to be an everyday starter.
It'd be in the Arizona Cardinals' best interest to consider drafting Wooden. The Cardinals' D-line took a hit this offseason with J.J. Watt retiring and Zach Allen joining the Denver Broncos in free agency. The unit is in pretty rough shape at the moment, so even adding an unproven rookie would be an improvement.
With the Cardinals unlikely to make the playoffs, Wooden could play and develop in a pressure-free environment as a rookie. As long as Arizona doesn't rush him into a role he isn't ready for, he could easily become a fan favorite one day.
Prediction: Arizona Cardinals (Round 3, 96th overall)
