Guardians vs. Rays Picks Today: Game 2 Best Bets and Props for October 13, 2026

Guardians vs. Rays Game 2 Picks in Summary
- Guardians Moneyline (+112)
- Parker Messick Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-148)
The Cleveland Guardians landed the first punch in the ALCS with a 7-3 win at the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1, and they'll have an opportunity to take a commanding series lead tonight at Tropicana Field.
Cleveland is turning to Parker Messick in Game 2 while Tampa Bay will counter with Freddy Peralta. Messick enters with the more impressive regular-season numbers, but the Rays are still slight home favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Guardians vs Rays ALCS Game 2 Best Bets and Picks
Guardians Moneyline (+112)
Moneyline
I'm willing to back the Cleveland Guardians as a small underdog — mostly due to Messick.
The left-hander was excellent throughout 2026, finishing the regular season with a 2.56 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 186 1/3 innings. He struck out 193 hitters while issuing only 49 walks, and his 25.8% strikeout rate was comfortably above the MLB average.
Messick also looks like an especially interesting matchup for the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays had trouble with left-handed pitching for much of the season, carrying the fourth-worst wOBA (.300) in the split for the regular season.
On the other side, Peralta's 2026 campaign was considerably shakier. He finished with a 4.42 ERA and 1.33 WHIP over 169 innings while posting a 21.3% strikeout rate. His swinging-strike rate remained solid at 12.5%, but this wasn't the dominant version of Peralta we've seen in previous seasons.
Cleveland's offense also showed in Game 1 that it can put pressure on Tampa Bay's pitching staff beyond the starter. After being held down early, the Guardians broke through against the Rays' bullpen and turned a close game into a 7-3 victory. That’s an extension of what the Guardians did in the previous round and they’ve now won four straight games.
With what looks like a meaningful starting-pitching advantage, Cleveland looks appealing to me.
Parker Messick Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-148)
Parker Messick - Strikeouts
Messick's strikeout prop is set at 4.5, with the over at -148. There's some juice attached, but I still prefer the over.
As mentioned, Messick was good for a 25.8% strikeout rate and 9.32 strikeouts per nine innings. That works out to just over six strikeouts per start.
He has already shown postseason strikeout upside, too. So far in these playoffs, Messick has punched out 11 hitters across 6 2/3 innings.
Tampa Bay's struggles against left-handed pitching add another reason to like the matchup, and with Cleveland winning Game 1, they may have a little longer leash for Messick tonight than if they were trying to avoid an 0-2 hole.
Assuming Messick is able to work five-plus innings, five strikeouts is a reasonable bar for him to clear.

MLB Betting Frequently Asked Questions
What are MLB player prop bets?
MLB player prop bets are wagers on specific statistical outcomes tied to individual players during a game — not on which team wins or loses. You might bet on how many strikeouts a starting pitcher records, whether a shortstop gets a hit, or how many total bases an outfielder accumulates.
Because they are isolated to a single player's performance, props let you apply focused knowledge about matchups, recent form, and ballpark conditions rather than predicting the full game result.
What types of MLB player props are available?
FanDuel offers a wide menu of MLB props. The most common categories include:
- Pitcher strikeouts
- Batter hits
- Home runs
- Total bases
- RBIs
- Stolen bases
- Pitcher outs recorded
How do MLB player prop bet odds work?
MLB prop odds use the standard American (moneyline) format. A negative number shows how much you must wager to profit $100. A positive number shows how much a $100 bet returns in profit.
- -110 odds — bet $110 to win $100
- +130 odds — bet $100 to win $130
- -200 odds — bet $200 to win $100
What does "total bases" mean as a prop bet?
The total bases prop counts the bases a batter earns from hits in a single game:
- Single = 1 base
- Double = 2 bases
- Triple = 3 bases
- Home run = 4 bases
Walks, hit-by-pitches, and stolen bases do not count. A typical total bases line is set at 1.5 or 2.5. Betting over 1.5 means you need at least a double, or two singles.
