The Tampa Bay Buccaneers turned some heads during the 2021 NFL Draft when they selected quarterback Kyle Trask to be the heir apparent to starter Tom Brady. It certainly seems like head coach Bruce Arians is a fan of the young QB after comparing him to a recently retired NFL star.
Arians said that the second-round draft pick's mental approach to the game reminds him of former Indianapolis Colt Andrew Luck. He would know best given he was the interim head coach when Luck led the team to the playoffs during what ended up being an outstanding rookie season.
"Mentally, he’s not far behind what Andrew did in the same offense. What Andrew did that year was unbelievable. I’m not saying he’s Andrew Luck, but mentally he’s really, really sharp.”- Bruce Arians on Kyle Trask
Trask put together a solid college career at Florida completing 67.9% of his pass attempts for 7,386 yards and 69 touchdowns over the course of 27 games played. He also showed a knack for getting in the end zone as he posted 8 rushing touchdowns despite having just 54 rushing yards.
All things considered, that is some high praise for Trask. The 23-year-old signal-caller is expected to spend at least one year learning the ropes under Brady, but is seen as the team's quarterback of the future. Arians' latest comments only prove that notion even more.
