NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Monday 11/13/23

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.

Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate, find a goalie, some stacks, and some value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.

NHL DFS Picks

Goalie to Target

Ilya Sorokin, New York Islanders ($8,300)

The best goaltender on the night is the one we want playing in the two-game slate.

Ilya Sorokin is expected to be in the net tonight for the New York Islanders as they take on the struggling Edmonton Oilers.

Sorokin hasn't had the start to the season that we've come to expect from him in terms of his numbers. He's currently sitting at a 3-2-3 record with a 3.24 goals against average (GAA) and .907 save percentage. Both of these numbers are below his career totals (2.39; .923), so we should expect him to get on track sooner than later.

The Islanders' netminder has saved 0.24 goals above expectation (GSAx) -- which is shocking considering that he led the NHL in this area (51.36) a year ago. It's time for him to get on track, and this is the right matchup to do just that.

Taking on the Oilers is the perfect opponent to rack up FanDuel points.

Edmonton ranks sixth with a 67.2 Corsi For per 60 minutes -- meaning that they're getting plenty of offensive opportunities -- but are not making it count. Their 34.15 shots per game have only led to them averaging 2.68 Goals For per 60 minutes, ranking 26th in the NHL. For Sorokin, it doesn't get much better than this setup for fantasy purposes.

numberFire's model has Sorokin projected for 19.7 FanDuel points.

Stacks

Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche are in the driver's seat for a big night.

The Avs will be facing off with the Seattle Kraken, giving their lineup a great matchup to put up some points. Colorado has a 3.52-goal implied team total, which does come in second on the night, but we're easily favoring them over the Oilers.

Through 13 games, the Avalanche have the third-best Corsi For per 60 (67.8) in the NHL. Despite the offensive success, that has only translated to 3.19 goals per 60, leaving them in the middle of the league in that respect. As we've grown used to with the Avalanche, they should be able to turn things around, averaging the fourth-best expected goals per 60 minutes at 3.59.

On the flip side, the Kraken have not been to the level they were expected to reach after last year. Seattle ranks 18th with a 60.48 Corsi Against per 60 minutes, meaning offense should only be pointing up for Colorado. The Kraken are going to have Philipp Grubauer between the pipes. He's continued to perform under expectations for Seattle with a 3.37 GAA and .891 save percentage to go along with an underwhelming -1.00 GSAx this season.

When it comes to stacking the Avalanche lineup, it's always best to start with the first line of Nathan MacKinnon ($10,300), Valeri Nichushkin ($6,200), and Jonathan Drouin ($3,600). They play together on both the first line and top power-play unit, giving them all the opportunities you need for offense.

Mikko Rantanen ($10,200) should get consideration with his usage on the second line and top power-play unit; he's projected for 17.6 FanDuel points.

Finally, Cale Makar ($7,900) makes all the sense in this spot after putting together 16 points in 13 games while also being projected for the most FanDuel points of anyone tonight (18.5) by numberFire.

Value Skaters

Jared McCann, W, Seattle Kraken ($6,100)

Fire up Jared McCann tonight as a top value skater.

Despite the shortcomings of the 5-7-3 Kraken, McCann has remained one of their most consistent players after a 40-goal season last year.

In his first 15 games, McCann has scored six goals while recording three assists -- good for nine points on the campaign thus far. He's gone four straight games without scoring a point, so he's overdue to get into the box score, and we expect that to be tonight.

McCann is averaging 16:45 TOI and 2.93 shots per game. He takes up spots on the third line and the second power-play unit, meaning he should be on the ice plenty. With it being a two-game slate, we're looking for any value we can get.

numberFire has McCann projected for a strong performance, expecting him to finish with 12.6 FanDuel points.

Evander Kane, W, Edmonton Oilers ($5,700)

Opposite Sorokin, Evander Kane is still worth considering tonight.

The Oilers are sitting at 3-9-1 and asking themselves what went wrong over their first month after being a betting favorite to win the Stanley Cup heading into the season. The good news is that their offense is slowly starting to click (67.2 Corsi For per 60). Kane takes a spot on the left side of the second line and second power-play unit -- a chance you're aiming for when picking a value skater.

Kane has put up 2.77 shots per game with 18:38 TOI -- especially strong numbers for his $5,700. He's got 3 goals, 7 assists, and 10 points but hasn't potted a goal in four games. If the Oilers are going to put it together offensively, Kane will have to contribute in his spots.

Kane is projected for 11.6 FanDuel points tonight, per numberFire's model.
