FanDuel Daily Fantasy Basketball Picks and Helper: Saturday 3/16/24

Since NBA DFS is easier to predict than baseball or football, it would likely get plenty of votes as the best sport to play on FanDuel. Basketball players usually stick to the same minutes and produce at roughly the same rate. Sounds easy, right? Trust me -- it's not!

As a result, NBA daily fantasy is highly reliant on a player's opportunity, so you'll need to ensure that you're up to date with key injuries. Our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- update throughout the day to reflect current news. You can also turn to numberFire for player news updates as well as a matchup heat map and lineup optimizer to help give you an edge.

On top of all that, here at FanDuel Research, we'll come at you each day with this NBA DFS primer, which breaks down some of the day's top plays at each position.

Let's dive into today's main slate on FanDuel.

Guards

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ($11,200): At his second lowest salary this season, Gilgeous-Alexander is third overall with a 47.2 fantasy projection in a matchup against a Memphis Grizzlies' team ranked 21st in FanDuel points (49.7 per game) allowed to point guards. While a potential blowout could be a concern, SAG has produced in this matchup, averaging 26.5 real-life points and 45.8 FanDuel points in two previous meetings.

Tyrese Haliburton ($9,200): Indiana's star is fourth among guards in value with a 5.18 rating and a 47.7 fantasy projection versus a Brooklyn Nets' defense giving up 48.7 FanDuel points per game to his position. In 419 minutes with Indiana's expected rotation, Haliburton is recording 1.24 FanDuel points per minute and a 22.3% usage rate.

Tyrese Maxey ($8,700): Despite a 2.3% salary increase, the 23-year old has a ceiling opportunity for potential return against a Charlotte Hornets' unit allowing 49.0 FanDuel points per game to point guards. Maxey has roasted Charlotte this season, accounting for 43.7 FanDuel points and 23.3 real-life points per contest.

Cameron Thomas ($7,600): Since his return on March 9th, Thomas ranks first among his team in fantasy production (1.25 FanDuel points per minute) and usage (32.7%) while his salary has increased by 18.7%.

D'Angelo Russell ($7,300): After a 5.1% drop to his lowest salary in March, the Lakers' point guard rates as an optimal choice with a 4.75 value rating and a 34.7 fantasy projection. In 204 minutes this month, "D-Lo" is averaging 1.03 FanDuel points per minute and a 23.0% usage rate.

Jordan Poole ($6,500): With Washington's current short-handed rotation even in a potential bench role, Poole's metrics see a bump to 1.16 FanDuel points per minute with a 32.5% usage rate.

Vasilije Micic ($6,400): In his last seven starts, Micic has provided efficient production, recording 0.98 FanDuel points per minute and 30.7 FanDuel points per appearance.

Kelly Oubre ($6,300): With Tobias Harris inactive and today's injuries, Oubre ranks second among Philly's expected first unit in usage (27.0%) and fantasy production (1.0 FanDuel point per minute).

Ayo Dosunmu ($6,100): After producing 0.80 FanDuel points per minute with Chicago's expected inactives, Dosunmu is fifth among guards in value with a 5.04 rating and a 30.8 fantasy projection.

Alex Caruso ($6,100): The Bulls' reliable perimeter defender sees a sneaky boost to 1.06 FanDuel points per minute with three key players missing from Saturday's rotation. Even at his highest salary in March, Caruso is third at his positions in value with a 5.20 rating and a 31.7 fantasy projection.

Dalano Banton ($5,100): The 24-year old is today's top value option with a 5.6 rating and a 28.6 fantasy projection after recording 1.03 FanDuel points and a 27.8% usage rate with Portland's injuries.

Kyle Lowry ($4,700): Despite accounting for a 14.7% usage rate in March, Philadelphia's veteran still offers underrated return with a 4.7 rating and a 22.1 fantasy projection.

Torrey Craig ($4,200): After logging 27 minutes in his last for an inactive Coby White, Craig is second overall in value with a 5.52 rating and a 23.2 fantasy projection.

Jared Butler ($3,600): Washington's third-year guard could fill in for an injured Tyus Jones while recording an efficient 1.29 FanDuel points per minute and a 21.6% usage rate with Washington's current injuries.

Forwards

LeBron James ($10,000): At his lowest salary this month, the Lakers' superstar should not be overlooked after he produced 1.36 FanDuel points per minute and 49.4 FanDuel points per appearance in March. James accounted for a monster triple double and an eye-popping 75.0 FanDuel points at the same salary in his last meeting against the Golden State Warriors.

Zion Williamson ($9,100): The Pelicans' star has displayed elite form in his last five games, recording 51.5 FanDuel points per contest and 1.55 FanDuel points per minute. Williamson is ninth overall with a 39.5 fantasy projection versus a Portland Trail Blazers' defense ranked 25th in points allowed in the paint.

Miles Bridges ($9,000): Even with Charlotte's inability to win games, Bridges has continued to put up impressive numbers, accounting for 39.6 FanDuel points per game in March.

DeMar DeRozan ($8,700): At his highest salary since December 28th, Chicago's leading candidate to win this year's Clutch Player of the Year Award is fifth overall in value with a 5.19 rating and a 45.1 fantasy projection. In 347 minutes with today's splits, DeRozan has produced 1.09 FanDuel points per minute and a team-high 30.2% usage rate.

Kyle Kuzma ($8,300): Washington's leading scorer has a monster role with today's rotation, accounting for an eye-popping 1.69 FanDuel points per minute and a 33.0% usage rate.

Jalen Williams ($7,800): Despite some inconsistent performances in March, Williams has averaged 1.22 FanDuel points per minute and 33.7 FanDuel points per contest in his last six appearances.

Deni Avdija ($7,200): The 23-year old is recording 0.98 FanDuel points per minute and a 20.7% usage rate with today's splits at his highest salary this month.

Trey Murphy III ($6,200): Even in second unit role, Murphy has played really well in March, producing 1.12 FanDuel points per minute while logging 29.1 minutes per game. With Herbert Jones now ruled out and two other Pelicans' role players, Murphy should see more minutes while producing 0.95 FanDuel points per minute and a 19.8% usage rate in today's splits.

Aaron Nesmith ($5,400): After producing 0.81 FanDuel points per minute with two Pacers' sitting out, Nesmith is second among forwards in value with a 5.17 rating and a 27.9 fantasy projection.

Rui Hachimura ($5,400): Los Angeles' versatile starter is another mid-salary optimal option, ranking third among his positions in value with a 4.9 rating and a 26.4 fantasy projection.

Centers

Anthony Davis ($11,500): AD is today's top option with a 54.7 fantasy projection versus a Golden State defense allowing 56.5 FanDuel points per game to the five position. "The Brow" has destroyed the Warriors in two previous meetings, averaging 28 real-life points and 55.8 FanDuel points on 21.5 shot attempts.

Nikola Vucevic ($8,000): Chicago's center is third overall in value with a 5.23 rating and a 41.9 fantasy projection after recording 1.20 FanDuel points per minute and a 28.8% usage rate with today's splits.
