Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NHL Prop Bets

Nathan MacKinnon To Record 2+ Points (-122)

With a whopping 4.16 implied goal total, the Colorado Avalanche should pile up the goals against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

When it comes to filling up the stat sheet, Nathan MacKinnon is among the truly elite players in the league. With 117 points in 69 games, MacKinnon has the second-most points in the league and is the odds-on favorite (-175) to win the Hart Trophy for MVP.

He comes in on a staggering 16-game point streak with a total of 32 points in that stretch. The level of production we've seen from MacKinnon is phenomenal and he has a great matchup to continue that streak tonight versus the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Over the last two weeks, the Blue Jackets have allowed 3.00 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 10th-worst in the league. During that same time, the Colorado offense has scored 3.20 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is good for the ninth-best.

MacKinnon is coming off of two games where he had just a single point in each game and with this favorable matchup, he's primed to pick up another multi-point outing.

Andrei Svechnikov Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-114)

The Carolina Hurricanes have an advantageous matchup against the Washington Capitals tonight.

When it comes to creating offensive pressure, the Canes are among the best in the league, which brings a strong level of consistency to shot props.

Over the last two weeks, the Canes have 71.90 Total Shot Attempts Created per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-best in the league. Their foot is on the gas pedal 24/7 when they're on the ice and I absolutely love that.

Tonight, they take on the Capitals, who are on the opposite end of that shot spectrum and have allowed the fifth-most (62.79) Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations over the last two weeks.

This leads me to Andrei Svechnikov, who is on the second forward line and the first power-play unit for Carolina. This has allowed him to pile up 26 shots on goal over the last 10 games, hitting at least two shots on goal nine times, and at least three shots on goal four times.

He has a strong level of consistency, and this soft matchup should help put him over on shots tonight.

Wyatt Johnston Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-130)

A great matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins puts the Dallas Stars in a favorable spot tonight.

With a role on the third forward line and the second power-play unit, Wyatt Johnston might not be a household name, but he's having a great season for the Stars.

Over the last 10 games, Johnston has a very strong 39 shots on goal, putting him over this 2.5 prop in seven of those outings. This shouldn't be too much of a surprise since the Stars have the 11th-most (60.15) Total Shot Attempts created per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations over the last two weeks.

Tonight, that level of production should only continue versus the Penguins, who have seen their season fall apart as the weeks have gone on. Their defense has dropped off and now sit in the bottom 10 for the most Shot Attempts Allowed (62.39) in the same situations over the last two weeks.

The Stars are in the middle of a very tight playoff race, and this is a matchup they should look to jump on early.
