The Minnesota Twins are in need of some good news as they currently sit 15.0 games back of the second American League Wild Card spot with a 53-67 record. It looks like the fans may have something to cheer about as the team got good news on outfielder Byron Buxton's injury update.

Byron Buxton Injury Update

Buxton continues to work his way back from a fractured left pinkie finger and is now set to take live batting practice at the Twins' Triple-A affiliate in St. Paul on Thursday. This is a great next step in his recovery as the 27-year-old hopes to return to the major leagues before the end of the season.

If Buxton looks good in the box, he will likely be sent on a minor-league rehab assignment within the next week or so. He has been away from the game for almost two months and will need some time to get his conditioning and comfortability at the plate back up to par.

The Twins desperately need Buxton's pop back in the lineup as he has dominated in 2021 when healthy. The Gold-Glove winner is slashing .369/.409/.767 through 110 plate appearances (27 games played). Buxton has also racked up 21 runs scored, 10 home runs and 19 RBI on the season.

Buxton should slide right back into his starting role in center field. Minnesota has been using a committee approach in Buxton's absence with Jake Cave, Max Kepler, Nick Gordon, Rob Refsnyder and Gilberto Celestino all seeing action at the position.

Twins fans can take a sigh of relief as it looks like the return of the team's star player is on the horizon.
