The Boston Red Sox are one of the best teams in baseball throughout the 2021 MLB season. With 57 wins, they own one of the best records across the league, along with first place in the AL East standings.
All things considered, it's a scary proposition to consider this team hasn't had starting pitcher Chris Sale the entire campaign. In fact, the seven-time All-Star hasn't pitched since the 2019 season.
Boston got some more positive news surrounding Sale's injury rehab on Wednesday. Not only was his first rehab start at Double-A phenomenal, but he's getting closer to a full return.
Chris Sale Injury Update
The 10-year MLB veteran and proven ace was brilliant in his first rehab start, tossing 3.2 innings without surrendering a hit and striking out six. He also hit 98mph with his fastball, which is an amazing sign for a pitcher returning from Tommy John surgery.
Sale is expected to rejoin the Red Sox for additional workouts and then make another start at Double-A on Sunday. If everything goes as planned, Sale could make his return in just the next couple of weeks.
Currently, the Red Sox own +1200 odds to win the World Series, according to the latest MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. The addition of a seven-time All-Star to the starting rotation should only help boost those odds down the stretch.
