Mike Tomlin Recruiting Tyrann Mathieu to Steelers

Free agency is beginning to take a back seat to the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft, but there's still a number of high-profile players on the market. That includes the talented safety Tyrann Mathieu.
Mathieu may remained unsigned, but his services will be needed on a contending team's roster by the time fall rolls around. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wants to see the three-time Pro Bowler join his squad.

Steelers Rumors
It's unclear the exact nature of these conversations, but Mathieu confirmed that "several coaches" have called him, specifically mentioning Tomlin.
The 'Honey Badger' may be the best player still available. He's recorded 13 interceptions over the last three seasons and received a solid 76.4 coverage grade from ProFootballFocus in 2021. Spotrac projects Mathieu to earn an average annual salary of $14.8 million.
There have been recent reports from Steelers insiders shooting down the possibility of this signing, but Monday's podcast appearance suggests otherwise.
Tomlin and his staff currently hold about $13.4 million in cap space. It's a waiting game to see where Mathieu lands, and Steelers fans will be closely monitoring the situation.
