Malcolm Brown's latest injury update brightens his fantasy outlook for Week 3 of the NFL season as it looks like he will be able to play in the Los Angeles Rams' next game against the Buffalo Bills. Brown is recovering from a finger injury he suffered during the Rams' win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2.
After undergoing surgery to repair his fractured pinky, Brown will step back into his role as the likely Rams' starting running back on Sunday, especially since rookie Cam Akers' status for Week 3 is up in the air.
Malcolm Brown Fantasy Outlook
Brown has been a solid contributor on offense for the Rams so far racking up 126 rushing yards and 2 tochdowns through two games this season. He has split time with Akers as well as second-year player Darrell Henderson, but Brown has been given 10-plus carries in each game so far.
If Brown is able to suit up for the game, he faces a tough matchup going up against a Bills' defense that has only given up 75.5 rushing yards per game so far this season (No. 3 in the NFL). Also, Henderson was able to post 81 yards on 12 carries last Sunday and it wouldn't be surprising to see him split carries with Brown rather evenly given he is the healthiest running back the Rams have right now.
The running back position has suffered a lot of injuries in the NFL this year and Brown is a solid FLEX play this week if you are in need of someone to fill that slot, but he likely has a ceiling and his fantasy viability in Week 3 might be touchdown-dependent.
Brown doesn't crack the top 36 running backs in our Week 3 fantasy football rankings, but Henderson does at No. 34. This backfield looks like it will be a headache all year long and it may change week to week. Unfortunately, it seems like all three running backs will have to be monitored on a weekly basis, at least for the foreseeable future.
