Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs commanded the offense during the 2020 season while on his way to earning his second straight 1K-yard season. He finished as the No. 8 RB in PPR fantasy football leagues, but Jacobs' outlook heading into the fall comes with a lot more risk involved.

The Raiders made a move in free agency to strengthen the backfield by signing Kenyan Drake to a two-year deal worth up to $14.5 million. Shelling out that kind of money on a No. 2 back means that Drake may have a bigger role on head coach Jon Gruden's offense than many people are expecting.

Jacobs was said to be working on his receiving skills prior to last season, but hauled in 33 of his 45 targets for just 238 yards. Meanwhile, Drake owns a career catch percentage of 73.5% and averages 7.4 yards per reception in his career. It wouldn't be surprising to see Jacobs fully absent from that aspect of the offense.

The real downside to drafting Jacobs in fantasy football is that he has likely already reached his full potential. He is set to see 250-275 rush attempts and could easily hit 1,000 yards again. However, it's going to be tough for the 23-year-old to repeat his rushing touchdown total (12) from 2020.

There's going to be weeks where Jacobs goes off for 100-plus rushing yards and a couple of scores. He may struggle when facing opposing defenses that know how to stuff a rushing attack, though.

FantasyPros' average draft position data shows that Jacobs is being drafted at No. 36 overall and No. 20 among RBs in PPR leagues. That price may just be a bit too high for player likely set to only see rushing work moving forward. Jacobs is merely a weak RB2 option that lacks any kind of upside.

Jacobs checks in at RB22 in The Duel's 2021 fantasy football rankings.
