With NFL teams having to cut their rosters down to 53, there has been a flurry of action on Tuesday.

One of the more surprising moves was the Las Vegas Raiders releasing wide receiver John Brown, who they inked to a one-year, $3.8 million deal earlier this offseason.

That release really opens the door for Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards to shine in fantasy football.

Henry Ruggs Fantasy Football

With his blazing speed, Ruggs was clearly brought in to be a field-stretching deep threat for the Raiders. We saw that play out in 2020, when his 17.4-yard average depth of target (aDOT) was the highest for anyone on the team with 10-plus targets.

The only other player with an aDOT above even 9 yards was Nelson Agholor (15.5), and with Agholor and his 82 targets gone in free agency, that opens the door for Ruggs to take all the deep volume.

There was some room for concern about Ruggs' role when Brown, a deep threat himself, was added in free agency, but this release obviously removes that concern.

Bryan Edwards Fantasy Football

Edwards is the other big winner from this move in fantasy football. He only saw 15 targets as a rookie, but his 8.5-yard aDOT checked in at third on the team (trailing Agholor and ahead of Darren Waller).

He's not the deep threat that Ruggs is, but he's an exciting prospect who has really impressed in training camp, and with his preseason involvement.

The Raiders still have a bunch of mouths to feed in the passing game, between Ruggs, Waller, Edwards, Hunter Renfrow and Kenyan Drake, but Edwards still has some interesting sleeper upside if he can carve out a role as the starter on the outside opposite Ruggs.

Ruggs checks in at 134th while Edwards is No. 175 in The Duel's top-200 fantasy football player rankings.
