Golden Tate isn't the player he used to be, but he can still contribute at a high level when on the field. He's a real force after the catch, having racked up 5.8 yards after the catch per reception as recently as 2019. That was good for the seventh-best mark among all qualified WRs.
With most of the big-name players off the market, here are the three best remaining free-agent destinations for the former New York Giant.
Golden Tate Rumors
3. Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers don't really have any proven wideouts behind Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore. Tate could be a great option for the team to pick up in the slot. Plus, Carolina is likely grooming a young QB in 2021, and Tate would be a nice safety blanket for any developing signal-caller.
2. San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers only have about $7.8 million in available cap space, per Spotrac. But if Tate is willing to take a team-friendly deal, he'd find himself in a really nice situation. Kyle Shanahan's entire offense is designed to generate yards after the catch, and that's Tate's best NFL attribute. He'd be a great WR3 behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have been targeting some big-name wideouts this offseason, but they missed out on JuJu Smith-Schuster. Tate would be a nice consolation prize. Like JuJu, he's a physical, possession receiver who can consistently move the chains. That's an element this team could use at WR as Kansas City has tended to focus more on speed at the position. The chance to play with Patrick Mahomes and compete for a ring could lure Tate to Arrowhead.
