2026 Breeders’ Cup Friday Picks

Key Takeaways:

  • Future Stars Friday at Keeneland features five Grade 1 races for two-year-olds, with dirt stars aiming toward the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks and turf contenders looking to make their mark internationally.
  • Final Objective is the top pick in the Juvenile Turf Sprint after a neck victory in the Flying Childers (G2). Force Noir and Harper’s Corner also bring strong form, while Adonius is worth watching if scratches get him into the field.
  • Domain Expansion offers value in the Juvenile Fillies after winning the Oak Leaf (G2), while undefeated Emphatic has the versatility to handle a competitive pace. Manuka Honey is another contender to watch as she stretches out to two turns.
  • Amusingly is the pick in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, bringing Group 1 form and experience around two turns. In the Juvenile Turf, Haffner could benefit from firmer ground after winning the Royal Lodge (G2), while Folsom Blues remains a major threat.
  • American History is the top choice in the Juvenile after improving over two turns to win the Breeders’ Futurity (G1). Favorite Hughes is a serious rival after an impressive American Pharoah (G1) victory, but American History could offer better betting value.

The best two days of the horse racing year are here: the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. The weekend gets underway Friday, October 30, with Future Stars Friday. The card features five Grade 1 races for juvenile horses: the rising stars of today, pointing toward classic races and perhaps even immortality tomorrow.

Dirt runners take the spotlight in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, two of the original Breeders’ Cup races and races that still greatly impact both the two-year-old championship races and the roads to the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks. Future Stars Friday also features three turf races with global fields. From the fast and furious Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint to the one-mile Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, horses who run well in these races make an impact on the best grass races all over the world going forward.

The Breeders’ Cup continues Saturday with nine more championship races on both dirt and turf, featuring three-year-olds and older horses. This year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic features Forever Young trying to become the second horse after Tiznow to win the race twice. But, he faces a tough field, including a top-notch pair from the Bill Mott barn: 2025 Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty and 2026 Pacific Classic (G1) winner Knightsbridge. We will cover this race, and all the day-two action, in our Breeders’ Cup Saturday picks.

Naturally, you can bet which horses will win their Breeders’ Cup races at FanDuel Racing. Also, discover 2026 Breeders’ Cup odds and bet the Breeders’ Cup with exclusive bonuses and promos.

Future Stars Friday Horse Racing Picks

These are our top picks and predictions for the five Breeders’ Cup races on Friday at Keeneland:

2026 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint

Before getting into the main field, make sure to watch the scratch list. Adonius won the local prep, the Indian Summer (G3), has never been out of the exacta in six starts, and got relegated three-deep on the also-eligibles anyway. It’s a miscarriage of justice. If he gets the necessary scratches in front of him, he’ll have a difficult wide post, but give him a long look. He rallied well to win over course and distance last out, taking well to both Keeneland and the 5 ½ furlong drip, and unlike a lot of the other horses with international experience, seems to like a turn more than the straight.

Among the horses who did get into the main field, Final Objective appeals the most. He comes out of a neck victory in the Flying Childers (G2), a quality sprint race at Doncaster that often holds up well as a prep for this race. With good form up front or a few lengths back, he has some versatility and has shown he can pass horses. He has rounded into his best form yet with James Doyle in the iron for his last three, and keeps Doyle aboard for the Breeders’ Cup. From a decent gate, expect him to be right there at the finish.

Force Noir missed by just a neck in the Middle Park, showing a trajectory of improvement into that spot, and even though he should be part of the pace, he has some grit and even some ability to stay interested if he doesn’t make the top. Harper’s Corner has pace and should be sharp enough to be forward from the outset here, but has also shown that she can battle and keep going, a must in such a big field. Crownbreaker has a bit of second-itis, and always seems to find one or two too good, but showed up well for second behind Final Objective in the Flying Childers last out, and if that version showed up in this spot, a piece of exotics is realistic at a big price.

2026 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies

Domain Expansion punched her ticket to the Breeders’ Cup with a victory in the Oak Leaf at Santa Anita. That was her maiden-breaker – but she had an excuse in her maiden special weight debut, making it a perfectly logical choice to try her against the proverbial big girls in the stakes second out. A better start put her in place for a stalk-and-pounce trip, something that should work nicely at Keeneland as well as at Santa Anita. She also stands to be a nice price on the tote board: trainer Leonard Powell wins with shippers at a price, and jockey Adrian Escobedo sticks with her and takes his first mount in the Breeders’ Cup.

The undefeated Emphatic wired the local prep, proving that she can handle the surface – but she won her earlier races in stalk-and-pounce fashion, meaning that she doesn’t have to be on the lead and has the versatility to work a trip even with others in the field who can show pace. Although Voyager earned a bid to the Juvenile Fillies Turf through the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series, the Natalma winner shows up here instead. The Mark Casse trainee showed some potential over dirt in her first two starts, and this pace-versatile filly has upside switching back to a two-turn configuration instead of Woodbine’s one-turn turf mile. Manuka Honey tries two turns for the first time, but is by two-turn Upstart out of a proven two-turn producer. The Pocahontas (G3) winner should get a good stalking trip under jockey Luis Saez.

2026 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf

Although Sun Goddess will be one of the heaviest favorites of Future Stars Friday, Amusingly also comes out of an overseas Group 1 race – not to mention that, unlike Sun Goddess, Amusingly has gone a two-turn trip before. She earned those Group 1 laurels in the seven-furlong Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (G1) at ParisLongchamp on Arc day, rallying from well off the pace to beat Folsom Blues, a serious contender in the boys’ complement of this race. Two back, she was beaten by only a neck in the Prix d’Aumale (G2) at Longchamp, a mile race, making a rally and fighting on after some trouble, and just getting tagged late. She should be fitter for this next try at a mile, and with just three starts underneath her, the sky is the limit for this Juddmonte homebred.

Sun Goddess tries a mile for the first time, something worth being a little skeptical about at such a short price, but she has won six of her eight starts including three at the top level. She hasn’t lost since a length defeat to the quality Libertango in the Albany (G2) at Royal Ascot, and is adaptable enough to be a major threat. Vanta gets a class test in this spot, but she hasn’t done a thing wrong in three starts; she keeps strong turf rider Umberto Rispoli, and California turf juveniles can do well at the Breeders’ Cup at a huge price. Green Empress has to handle the fence in a big field, which can be a challenge, but she scored in the one-mile Prix Marcel Boussac (G1) last out, should take well to the firm ground, and is versatile enough to carve out a trip and get a piece in a large, potentially chaotic field.

2026 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile

Todd Pletcher is always dangerous in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, and the New York-based trainer is always well-meant when he shows up at Keeneland as well. The latter was on full display when American History overhauled Coach Pope in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) on October 4, and the former has every right to be on display Saturday. He took a nice step forward on the stretch out to 1 1/16 miles. With just two starts underneath him, he has a right to move forward, and the fact that he has looked so good training toward the Breeders’ Cup only helps his case further. The presence of Hughes means the price should be right to bet that he’ll take a step forward.

Hughes won the American Pharoah (G1) last out in fast fashion, impressing in his two-turn debut. He also showed that he can be a stalker and not just a pacesetter or pace presser, a dimension that should suit him well. The price will be short, but it wouldn’t be a shock if he ran to expectations. Salahudin is the second-string Baffert behind Hughes. He hasn’t gone any longer than the one-turn mile, but he recovered well from starting poorly in the Iroquois, showed he could pass horses, and is bred to stretch out further. Coach Pope has tables to turn on American History, but if his Breeders’ Futurity was just a regression from his impressive two-back maiden win at Churchill Downs, then he has a right to bounce back and turn heads once more.

2026 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf

Haffner ran smartly to win the one-mile Royal Lodge (G2) last out at Newmarket. It was a nice bounce back from his flop behind Folsom Blues in the National Stakes (G1) two back at The Curragh. He’ll have to turn the tables on Folsom Blues, the winner of the National – but that was his only start on yielding ground. With clear weather on the horizon at Keeneland, he gets back on better ground, something for which he was probably sent stateside to find. He’s the second-stringer from the Aidan O’Brien barn here – but he drew much better than Great Barrier Reef, who is mired to the outside, and has class from a good gate at a good price.

Folsom Blues, trained by Joseph O’Brien, has run well in all six of his starts despite only having two wins to show for it. He has shown the tractability necessary to work a trip in a large field of juveniles, and he has form through the likes of Amusingly and Sun Goddess, two horses who would fit well here if fillies were allowed to run in this spot. Let Em Know has won twice in four starts – his two races at a two-turn configuration on the lawn. He had some trouble when fifth at the flat mile in the Summer (G1) at Woodbine, but that’s also over a one-turn trip, and he’ll be well spotted to get a track-and-pounce trip from a middle gate at this two-turn mile. Oscar is another who ran well in the one-turn Summer but should move forward on the return to a two-turn setup. He should get a clean outside stalking trip under William Buick, who rides for the first time but knows how to win the world’s biggest races on the grass.
