D'Andre Swift looked like he was really coming into his own as a workhorse running back in Week 10. His 43 snaps and 21 touches were both season-highs, and he racked up 149 yards from scrimmage as the Detroit Lions snapped a two-game losing streak.

He's been out with a concussion ever since, however, and the most recent update from teammate Adrian Peterson does not sound good.

Concussions are notoriously unpredictable, and still having lingering symptoms like this after already missing two games is not a good sign.

Peterson rushed for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns in relief of Swift on Thanksgiving, but it wasn't enough as the Lions suffered their second consecutive lopsided loss.

At this point the 4-win Lions are firmly out of the playoff picture, so they have every reason to take a cautious approach with Swift's recovery.

They want him helping to carry this offense long-term, and risking his health by rushing him back would be entirely foolish. With a new-look coaching staff following the firing of Matt Patricia, hopefully the team makes the right choice here.
