The Philadelphia Phillies had high hopes heading into the 2019 MLB season, after a flurry of moves seemingly had them positioned for a playoff berth. Unfortunately, the additions of Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Andrew McCutchen and Jean Segura resulted in just an 81-81 record and no postseason.

Despite their shortcomings, the Phillies are fully invested in making another run toward the 2020 World Series, and they've already been linked to several free agents and potential trades. While there are multiple names being thrown out there, here are three players the Phillies can acquire that should help them unseat the reigning World Series champion Washington Nationals in 2020.

1. Sign Didi Gregorius

Philadelphia was 14th in runs scored and 22nd in home runs last season, which isn't going to cut it in today's power-driven game. The team can desperately use some power in its middle infield, as the 2B-SS duo of César Hernández and Segura combined for 26 homers in 2019. Meanwhile, Didi Gregorius hit 16 dingers for the New York Yankees last season in just 82 games. The Phillies are rumored to be pursuing the 29-year-old free agent and now have former Yankees manager Joe Girardi at the helm to help lure him in. Gregorius would surely give the Phillies a much-needed power boost while also providing an above-average glove at shortstop.

2. Sign Madison Bumgarner

Of course, the Phillies will also be pursuing pitching help this offseason, in the form of a front-line starter. The team lacked a true No. 2 behind Aaron Nola last season, who had a down year with a 3.87 ERA. Nola should bounce back though, and adding a big lefty like Madison Bumgarner to compliment their ace right-hander would give the Phillies the one-two punch they've been seeking at the top of their rotation. MadBum will be heavily pursued this offseason, so the Phillies would likely need to shell out a very lucrative contract to add the 30-year-old workhorse to their roster.

3. Trade for Kris Bryant

Free agency isn't the only avenue the Phillies can use to improve their roster, as they can also explore making a trade as well. One such rumor floating around is a deal for Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, which, according to MLB Network insider Joel Sherman, could involve Segura, Jay Bruce and prospects going to Chicago in exchange for Bryant and Jason Heyward. While the rumor is just that, at this point, the Cubs are a team interested in shedding payroll, while Bryant is arbitration eligible next season before potentially hitting the open market in 2021. Bryant could team up with his good friend and fellow Las Vegas native Bryce Harper in Philadelphia, after the latter passed on signing with the Cubs last offseason.
