Nuggets vs. Suns Game 6 Analysis
At home in Game 5 on Tuesday, the Nuggets returned to their winning ways. After dropping two close games on the road, they were once again dominant in the friendly confines of Ball Arena. While Denver maintained a lead for most of the first half, a Phoenix run right before the break saw the Nuggets enter the second half down by three points. They responded immediately, outscoring the Suns by 14 in the third quarter and cruising to a win.
Jokic recorded another triple-double, and Denver shot 49.4% from the field and 48.1% from behind the arc -- but the real difference maker for the Nuggets was their defense.
They are allowing 98.7 points per game to the Suns in Denver this series, joining the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers as the only teams holding their opponents to under 100.0 points per home game in the Conference semifinals. All three of those teams are also undefeated at home this postseason, with Denver now sitting at 6-0.
Denver's 1-3 road record isn't a great sign for today's Game 6, but their continued dominance at home bodes well for their chances of winning this series. As it stands, they are -480 to advance to the Western Conference Finals and are the favorites to win the NBA Finals (+290).
For Phoenix, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant have been consistently excellent throughout this series. They saw a slight dip in production in Game 5, but the Suns' bench has stepped up when playing in Arizona.
At home this series, Phoenix's bench is averaging 31.5 points per game on 51.1% shooting from the field and a plus/minus of +7.4, second-best among remaining teams. On the road, that drops to 18.0 points per game on 32.3% shooting and a plus/minus of -3.5. The Nuggets' bench has a plus/minus of -7.2 on the road during this series, the worst mark among the remaining teams.
Back in Phoenix for Game 6, the Suns' bench will need to step up the way it did in Games 3 and 4 if Phoenix is going to extend this series.
