NHL Player Prop Bets to Target on Monday 11/13/23

With a coaching change for the Edmonton Oilers, things may finally be looking up for them this season.

The Oilers fired their head coach yesterday and replaced him with Kris Knoblauch, who was a coach in the AHL this season. Interestingly enough, Knoblauch was the head coach of Connor McDavid, when he played junior hockey for the Erie Otters from 2012-2015.

To put things plainly, the Oilers season and McDavid have been off to a bad start this season and sit in 31st place in the standings. Am I buying into the narrative of McDavid's former coach coming in and helping save their season? Yes.

In reality, it's actually a great matchup for the Oilers, who have a 3.62 implied goal total tonight. They are up against the New York Islanders, who come in with a 68.7 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fourth-worst in the league.

For the Oilers, they have a 66.29 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fifth-best in the league.

The Oilers come in scoring just 2.15 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, putting them as the eighth-lowest in the league. However, if we look at their Expected Goals Scored (xGF) they are up at a whopping 3.31 Goals in the same situations, which is number one in the league.

The Oilers are underperforming this season, there's no two ways about it. However, a breath of fresh air with a new coach should put McDavid in a great spot tonight and going forward.
