NHL Betting Picks and Player Props to Target: Sunday 2/11/24

Sunday in the NHL during football season is usually quiet, and today is no different with just two games. How can we find value amongst them?

Whether it's moneylines, total goals, or player props, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season long. It's a long 82-game season, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings.

My favorite picks are on the way, but don't forget to check out FanDuel's Parlay Hub to see other trending bets in all sports -- including ice hockey.

Let's dive into the best bets for tonight.

NHL Best Bets

St. Louis Blues at Montreal Canadiens

Under 6.5 (-128)
Jordan Kyrou 4+ Shots on Goal (+114)

Both of these teams saved their primary netminders for today's second leg of a back-to-back. In addition to tired legs, they're why we should look toward this under.

Of course, the St. Louis Blues and Montreal Canadiens also just have pretty dreadful offenses. In the past 30 days, they're fourth and third, respectively, from the bottom in expected goals (xG) per 60 minutes across the NHL.

Though they're also both bottom five in xG allowed per 60, the goaltending can stop what few offensive chances are created here. St. Louis' Jordan Binnington is fifth in the NHL in goals saved above expectation (GSAx) in the past month of play (8.69), and Montreal's Jake Allen (1.22 GSAx) has also been of service.

We likely don't want to tie this under bet to a goal-scoring prop, so Jordan Kyrou's shot prop stood out in what is projected to be a close affair. The All-Star has posted 3.22 shots per game in 2023-24, and the Canadiens are allowing the most shots on goal per game (36.0) over the past month.

For that reason, FanDuel Research's new and super cool NHL player projections forecast him for 3.88 shots at a median in this one. That projection would translate to -730 odds for at least four of them.

Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals

Canucks -1.5 (+140)
Brock Boeser Anytime Goal (+160)

There has to be value in backing the Vancouver Canucks today.

As a road favorite, Vancouver ceded a penalty shot in overtime to lose yesterday's tilt against the Detroit Red Wings. Meanwhile, the Washington Capitals scored arguably their most impressive win all season, shutting out the Boston Bruins, 3-0, in Beantown. Even though the Canucks are still the public side, this number isn't as short as it should be.

In the past 30 days, the 'Nucks have posted a 55.5 expected-goals-for rate (xGF%) that towers over Washington's mark (49.4 xGF%) in the same period. The gap only widens in goal where Vancouver's Thatcher Demko has posted 3.23 GSAx in the past month of play. Washington's Darcy Kuemper (0.54 GSAx) hasn't been quite as effective.

numberFire's model believes that Vancouver covers this puckline 43.0% of the time. These odds imply a 41.7% chance. There is a hint of value here.

If they do get it done, I'm going back to the well with Brock Boeser. He posted a hat trick on January 27th when I wrote up his anytime goal, but the All-Star hasn't scored since through 8 total shots. Boeser has posted 0.58 goals per game and is shooting 21.9% from the ice this season, so he's due on that sort of volume.

FanDuel Research's projections would assign -104 odds to a Boeser tally given his median expectation (0.51) today, so +160 is a bargain.
