NFL Survivor Picks for Week 8: You May Have to Trust (Gulp) the Chargers
There aren't many more crucial things than nailing your NFL survivor picks, so we're here to help.
Based on numberFire's NFL survivor matrix, here are some of the best NFL survivor picks for Week 8.
NFL Survivor Picks for Week 8
Great Options That You've Probably Used
Several of the week's biggest favorites -- according to the NFL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook -- are teams that you've likely picked already this year because they're squads that are typically among the big favorites each week. However, I'll rattle them off just in case.
- Miami Dolphins (-480 ML) vs. New England Patriots
- Baltimore Ravens (-420) at Arizona Cardinals
- Buffalo Bills (-420) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Kansas City Chiefs (-390) at Denver Broncos
If you haven't yet picked any of those four elite teams, they're all smashing options this week. One word of warning regarding Kansas City: it could be a snowy day in Denver, something that might give the Broncos a better chance of slowing down Patrick Mahomes and company. With that said, oddsmakers are fully aware of potential weather issues and installed KC as an overwhelming favorite.
Los Angeles Chargers
It's not easy to trust the Los Angeles Chargers -- I get it. But if you've used the teams listed above, the Bolts are the obvious pick this week. LA is a -450 moneyline favorite at home against the Chicago Bears, a team that will be turning to Tyson Bagent once again.
It's the Chargers, so I'm sure things won't be straightforward on Sunday night. In a similar position against Aidan O'Connell and the Las Vegas Raiders a few weeks ago, the Chargers held on for a 24-17 win that was anything but comfortable late in the game.
But we're now eight weeks into this, and assuming you haven't used the Chargers this year, we can't do much better than a -450 home favorite against one of the NFL's worst teams.
Detroit Lions
While I'm pretty confident the majority of you haven't picked the Bolts this year, there's a better chance you may have used the Detroit Lions, specifically against the Carolina Panthers three weeks back. But if you haven't, Detroit makes sense this week.
The Lions are at home against the Raiders and are -390 moneyline favorites. Even if Jimmy Garoppolo is back this week, Vegas is one of the worst teams in the NFL, and with this being a rare primetime home game (Monday) in Detroit, the Lions are sure to come out with their hair on fire. Plus, Detroit will desperately want to rebound after getting ambushed by the Ravens in Week 7.
The Lions own the week's top win odds (85.9%), per numberFire.
Digging Deeper
Have you already used all the teams mentioned above? Here are some other options.
Philadelphia Eagles
If you've yet to burn through the Philadelphia Eagles, they check a few boxes this week. Among teams we've yet to mention, they're the biggest favorite left -- listed at -295 on the moneyline for their NFC East matchup at the Washington Commanders. That means they have to be on our radar.
Philly has beaten Washington in four of their last five matchups, although the past two games have been a different story. Washington won at Philadelphia in their second meeting of 2022, and the Eagles needed overtime to get past the Commanders earlier this year.
Still, a -295 moneyline favorite deserves our attention.
New York Jets
If you need to get desperate, the New York Jets catch my eye.
Gang Green is a -152 favorite against the New York Giants in a Big Apple battle.
I don't feel any better about entrusting my survivor livelihood to Zach Wilson than you do, but if you've already used up many of this week's big favorites, the Jets aren't a terrible dart throw.
Even though this is a road game, the Jets are obviously familiar with the stadium and will surely have a decent amount of fans in the crowd. The Jets are roughly five points better than Big Blue, per numberFire's nERD metric, and the Giants' 31st-ranked offense should struggle mightily to move the ball on offense against the Jets' 8th-ranked D.
