Monday Night Football Preview: Packers and Giants Put Winning Streaks on the Line

In one of two games featured on Monday of Week 14, the New York Giants (4-8) will host the Green Bay Packers (6-6) for a meeting of surging NFC sides.

Entering the tilt in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the visiting Packers have won three consecutive contests despite being listed as an underdog in each of those. Still going through his first season as Green Bay's starter, quarterback Jordan Love has improved as the season has progressed.

Technically, the Football Giants are riding their first winning streak of 2023. After back-to-back victories, New York will attempt to defeat a team that is not under .500 for the first time this campaign -- every squad Big Blue has beaten this year has a losing record.

With Monday's kickoff looming nearby, let's dive into the matchup, identifying which betting markets have value at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Packers vs. Giants Week 14 Matchup Analysis

Off the bat, the urgency should be much higher tonight for the Pack. Given that the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions (9-4) lost yesterday, Green Bay has the advantageous opportunity to gain a game in the divisional standings with a win tonight at MetLife. Right now, FanDuel Sportsbook has Green Bay listed at -210 odds to make the playoffs. Will Packers head coach Matt LaFleur have his side ready to answer the call?

As noted in the intro, the Giants have done well to string together wins after starting the campaign at 2-8. Rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito has become somewhat of a hometown hero, and he will be making just his fourth career start with Daniel Jones out. DeVito has thrown four touchdowns with no interceptions on NYG's current win streak. Some believe DeVito is making strides, but his success could be subject to playing against lesser competition in the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots.

Back across the field, Love has increased his rapport with his young receiving corps. Big-bodied target Christian Watson -- who is out tonight -- has caught four touchdowns over Green Bay's past three games, while Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs have both posted lines of at least 40-plus receptions, 500-plus receiving yards and 5-plus scores through a dozen games this season.

With Watson out, look for the burley A.J. Dillon to ground the Packer offense with Aaron Jones expected to be out once more.

Outside of tailback Saquon Barkley, Big Blue does not boast much offensive firepower. In 2023, the Giants have scored only 13.3 points per game, which is the second-worst clip in the NFL. Wideout Darius Slayton has been their leading receiver while tight end Darren Waller (1 TD) -- who is out -- has been underwhelming since coming over from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Quietly, the Packers have been a top defense this season. Through 12 games, they have allowed 20.3 points per game (11th-fewest). With a strong secondary group, the "Cheeseheads" have given up fewer passing touchdowns (13) than any other side in the NFC. Additionally, GB has been the fifth-stingiest team in the NFL in terms of yards surrendered through the air (218.7 per game).

numberFire's projections currently give Green Bay a 75.3% chance to make the postseason. Naturally, that number will inflate if they take care of business tonight.

What should we look for in the betting market?

Packers vs. Giants Best Bet

Over 37.0 (-110)

I understand and respect the trend of primetime unders this season, but simply, I think a total of 37.0 combined points is too low to pass up. If storms were forecasted in the Tri-State area, I might be willing to bite on the under, but conditions are expected to be chilly (36 degrees at kickoff) and clear.

Over their three-game heater, Green Bay has propelled their scoring clip to 26.3 points per game. To add more confidence, they put up impressive numbers against quality defenses in the Lions (29 points) and Kansas City Chiefs (27 points) in consecutive weeks.

On the other side, the G-Men are coming off a bye (not having played since Thanksgiving weekend), and I believe their fresh legs can give them a jolt.

numberFire's NFL game projections have an estimated score of 23.87-18.38 in favor of the Pack. That results in a combined sum of 42.25 points. Versus a set number of 37 (and no hook), I am taking the over and will be rooting for scoring tonight.

Packers vs. Giants Prop Bet

Romeo Doubs Any Time TD Scorer (+190)

The second-year receiver has definitively etched out a thriving role in Green Bay's current offense. A product of the University of Nevada, Doubs has already scored 10 career touchdowns in 18 starts over two seasons. In 2023, he leads Green Bay with 45 receptions and 7 total scores, not having gone more than two straight games without finding the end zone.

As alluded to, fellow Packer wideout Christian Watson will be out for Monday's contest at MetLife Stadium. Doubs was already accounting for an 18.1% target share on the year, but in games that Watson misses, Doubs' target share jumps up to 20.8% (including three touchdowns).

To this point in the current campaign, the Giants have allowed 10.7 yards per reception, the sixth-most. Against Green Bay's improving O, Big Blue's defense will see its most difficult challenge of the past month. I believe that the 6-foot-2 Doubs will be there to reap the benefits.

FanDuel Sportsbook currently has Doubs at +190 odds to score a touchdown, and I think that's a number worth considering.
