MLB Same Game Parlay Bets for Friday 5/10/24

Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates

Javier Assad to Record 4+ Strikeouts (-260)
Jared Jones to Record 6+ Strikeouts (-290)
Under 7.5 Total Runs (-122)

Combined Odds: +193

Javier Assad has been a pleasant surprise for the Chicago Cubs in their starting rotation, producing a 3-0 record, 1.66 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and a 0.47 HR/9 in seven starts to begin the season. While Assad isn't viewed as a strikeout pitcher with a pedestrian 20.5% strikeout rate, he is in the 72nd percentile in xERA (3.23) and should pitch deep into Friday's matchup versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Ahead of Friday's slate of contests, FanDuel Research's Riley Thomas has the over on Assad's strikeout prop of 4.5 mentioned among his favorite K props on the day. Instead of taking Assad to record five-plus strikeouts, we'll take him to reach four strikeouts against the Pirates, which is a number he's achieved in five of his seven starts.

In the early part of the season, Pittsburgh is posting the 10th-highest strikeout rate (23.8%) against right-handed pitching and the seventh-highest CSW rate (29.0%).

On the other side, Jared Jones is set to make his eighth start of the campaign for the Pirates. Jones has flashed plenty of upside in the K department, sitting in the 95th percentile in chase rate (35.8%), 97th percentile in whiff rate (37.0%), and 95th percentile in strikeout rate (33.8%).

Besides having the eighth-highest strikeout rate (24.1%) versus righties, the Cubs have the ninth-highest swinging-strike rate (11.7%). With Jones notching six-plus strikeouts in six of his seven starts, we'll take his alternate strikeout line of six-plus on Friday.

Backing both pitchers on the mound in this NL Central showdown makes the under of 7.5 runs an enticing leg in this SGP. Chicago is 22-16 to the under this season while Pittsburgh is 22-5-1 to the under.

Philadelphia Phillies at Miami Marlins

Trevor Rogers Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-156)
Alec Bohm to Record 2+ Total Bases (-120)
Philadelphia Phillies Alternate Total Runs: Over 3.5 (-180)

Combined Odds: +269

It has been a disastrous start to the 2024 campaign for Trevor Rogers, who is making his eighth start of the year for the Miami Marlins. Seeing that Rogers has permitted a total of 14 earned runs in his last three starts, the Philadelphia Phillies are a team we want to bet on and use in MLB DFS on Friday.

At the moment, Rogers is in the 20th percentile in xERA (5.02), 42nd percentile in whiff rate (24.1%), and 21st percentile in strikeout rate (17.6%) with fewer than six Ks in five of his seven outings. While the Phillies have the seventh-highest strikeout rate (25.5%) against southpaws, they have plenty of hitters capable of doing damage versus Rogers -- including Alec Bohm.

Bohm is performing at an elite level versus lefties thus far, sporting a .479 wOBA, .256 ISO, 214 wRC+, and a 10.4% strikeout rate in the split. Throughout Bohm's first 48 plate appearances facing left-handed pitchers this year, seven of them have ended in extra-base hits.

Given Bohm's metrics against opposite-handed pitching, backing him to record two-plus total bases seems like a fruitful strategy in this contest. Bohm is also being given +750 odds to hit a home run in Friday's AL East bout between the Phillies and Marlins.

With Rogers' woes on the bump and the Phillies heating up on offense in recent games, we'll take Philadelphia to plate four-plus runs on the road. The Phillies have produced four-plus runs in five of their last six contests.

Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels

Vinnie Pasquantino to Record 2+ Total Bases (+115)
Kansas City Royals Over 4.5 Runs (+100)

Combined Odds: +238

One of the hottest hitters in baseball in recent weeks has been Vinnie Pasquantino of the Kansas City Royals. Pasquantino has tallied a hit in eight of his last nine games, and he's currently on a three-game hit streak with multiple hits in all three contests.

Just to drive home the point of how well Pasquantino has performed recently, over his past nine appearances, he's posted four multi-hit performances, seven extra-base hits, and six games where he achieved two-plus bases. Amid his impressive stretch of success, Pasquantino will next face Griffin Canning of the Los Angeles Angels.

Canning has been shelled to begin the year, sitting in the 21st percentile or worse in xERA (5.06), average exit velocity (90.7 MPH), strikeout rate (16.8%), and barrel rate (9.7%). Taking those numbers into account, Pasquantino has +460 odds to hit a home run in Friday's Royals-Angels clash.

The second -- and last -- leg of this SGP will be Kansas City scoring five-plus runs on Los Angeles. Against right-handed pitching, the Royals own the 10th-best wOBA (.316), eighth-best ISO (.160), and second-lowest strikeout rate (17.9%).

On top of that, Kansas City has accrued five-plus runs in five of their last eight games. That includes Thursday's series opener between the Royals and Angels where Kansas City put up 10 runs.
