3 FanDuel MLB DFS Stacks for Friday 5/10/24

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.

This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.

The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out our daily fantasy baseball projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- to identify the slate's best bats.

Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.

MLB DFS Stacks

Texas Rangers

Implied Total: 5.34 | Opposing Pitcher: Austin Gomber

The Texas Rangers are going to be a popular team to stack all weekend in a three-game series versus the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. On Friday, Austin Gomber is slated to take the mound for the Rockies.

Gomber hasn't been a complete disaster in his first seven starts, allowing fewer than two earned runs in two of his last three outings, and he's in the 77th percentile in hard-hit rate (33.9%). At the same time, Gomber is logging a career-worst 9.9% barrel rate and continues to struggle with missing bats, evidenced by his 12th percentile strikeout rate (15.7%).

The one concern with stacking the Rangers is the fact they have the eighth-highest strikeout rate (23.6%), fifth-lowest ISO (.115), eighth-lowest wOBA (.294), and eighth-lowest wRC+ (87) against southpaws to begin the 2024 campaign. That being said, Texas has scored 12-plus runs in three of their last six contests.

Marcus Semien ($4,600) and Adolis Garcia ($4,300) are the right-handed bats to target at the top of the order while Corey Seager ($3,600) and Nathaniel Lowe ($3,500) are left-handed bats who are capable of excelling in same-handed matchups. Semien and Lowe have both scored 25-plus FanDuel points in two of their last three games.

Using the middle or bottom-of-the-order guys on the Rangers is one way to differentiate Coors stacks. Robbie Grossman ($3,000), Ezequiel Duran ($2,800), Davis Wendzel ($2,600), and Leody Taveras ($3,100) figure to be less popular than the usual suspects hitting early in the lineup.

Lastly, when Gomber exits the contest, Colorado's bullpen is registering the third-worst SIERA (4.29), worst WHIP (1.52), and the second-lowest strikeout rate (18.5%).

Kansas City Royals

Implied Total: 4.35 | Opposing Pitcher: Griffin Canning

Griffin Canning has mightily struggled for the Los Angeles Angels to begin the year, and the Kansas City Royals are the next team that gets a chance to tee off on him. Across his first seven starts, Canning is in the 20th percentile in xERA (5.06), 14th percentile in average exit velocity (90.7 MPH), 16th percentile in strikeout rate (16.8%), and 21st percentile in barrel rate (9.7%).

As a result of his dismal metrics, Canning has given up three-plus earned runs in five of his seven starts. Once Canning exits the game, the bullpen of the Angels is registering the 12th-worst SIERA (3.79) and fourth-worst HR/9 (1.25).

Besides having the second-lowest strikeout rate (17.9%) against right-handed pitching, the Royals boast the eighth-best ISO (.160) and 10th-best wOBA (.316) in that split. Maikel Garcia ($3,100), Bobby Witt Jr. ($4,300), Vinnie Pasquantino ($2,900), and Salvador Perez ($3,500) are the main players to deploy in Kansas City stacks.

Pasquantino is one of my favorite plays with double-digit FanDuel points in six of his last eight games while Canning produces worse numbers versus lefties. Canning is permitting a .381 wOBA, 1.66 WHIP, and 2.08 HR/9 against left-handed bats compared to a .300 wOBA, 1.05 WHIP, and 0.68 HR/9 versus right-handed bats.

The other left-handed hitters to use are Michael Massey ($2,800), MJ Melendez ($2,600), and Kyle Isbel ($2,400). Massey has hit all three of his homers this season in three of his last nine outings.

Philadelphia Phillies

Implied Total: 4.27 | Opposing Pitcher: Trevor Rogers

Since the start of the 2023 season, the Philadelphia Phillies have feasted against left-handed pitching, which isn't a good sign for Trevor Rogers. Rogers is in the 20th percentile in xERA (5.02), sixth percentile in average exit velocity (91.6 MPH), 34th percentile in barrel rate (8.6%), and 13th percentile in hard-hit rate (46.6%) through his first seven starts in 2024.

Additionally, Rogers has surrendered three-plus earned runs in three consecutive starts -- including eight earned runs to the Oakland Athletics in his most recent outing. If the Athletics can do damage versus Rogers, the Phillies -- who have scored five-plus runs in four of their last five games -- should wreak havoc against the left-handed starter.

With Trea Turner on the IL for Philadelphia, Kyle Schwarber ($3,600), Bryce Harper ($3,900), and Alec Bohm ($3,700) are the high-salary options in the lineup. Of the bunch, Bohm is rocking a .479 wOBA, .256 ISO, and 214 wRC+ when going up against left-handed pitchers this year.

Schwarber and Harper have better matchups than some may expect as Rogers is allowing a .389 wOBA and 2.16 HR/9 to lefties in the early going.

Aside from J.T. Realmuto ($3,000), the rest of the lineup for the Phillies comes in with a salary under $2,700. Nick Castellanos, Whit Merrifield ($2,300), Edmundo Sosa ($2,500), and Johan Rojas ($2,600) are viable salary-saving options on a slate where you may want to use high-salary players from the Coors game.
