Pitcher Breakdown
Despite the fact that it's a nine-game slate, just one pitcher -- Logan Webb ($10,100) -- holds a salary in the five figures.
While Webb does lead numberFire's projections in expected FanDuel points (34.6), others are within range at even lower salaries, meaning this can be a stack-heavy night with our batters by default.
Webb does, though, lead the main slate in xFIP (3.11), SIERA (3.38), and called-strike-plus-whiff rate (28.4). However, his matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays' bats is enough to keep him out of must-play territory.
Nick Pivetta ($9,000) is probably the overall standout in a matchup with the Oakland Athletics, a team with a 27.0% active-roster strikeout rate against righties (second-highest in the Majors). Pivetta owns a 3.38 SIERA and a 3.52 xFIP, suggesting his ERA (4.06) should shrink eventually. Pivetta leads the main slate in strikeout rate (28.1%). Pivetta's 6.5 strikeout prop comes with hefty -158 odds on the over in this enticing spot.
But Framber Valdez ($9,800) faces a Miami Marlins team with a league-worst .269 wOBA against southpaws.
Others to Consider
- Tobias Myers ($7,400 vs. PIT) - Faces a top-six offense by strikeout rate against righties that's also bottom-10 by wOBA.
- Frankie Montas ($7,200 vs. COL) - Has -128 odds on over 5.5 K's against a squad that's 5th in strikeout rate vs. RHP.
Stacks to Target
- Cincinnati Reds - Kyle Freeland owns a 5.12 SIERA with a lowly 12.9% K-rate, and the Colorado Rockies' bullpen is last in SIERA (4.39).
- Boston Red Sox - Top-10 in wOBA vs. LHP despite a league-high K% in the split, but JP Sears owns just a 16.7% K% himself.
- New York Mets - 136 wRC+ last 30 days vs. LHP and 124 for the year; Patrick Corbin has a 6.25 xERA.
- Atlanta Braves - Slade Cecconi is letting up a 47.4% fly-ball rate and a 32.7% hard-hit rate, and his bullpen rates out in the bottom-five by SIERA.
- Texas Rangers - Griffin Canning is getting shelled (35.2% hard-hit rate) and not earning K's (15.8%) to the tune of a 4.92 SIERA; also a plus bullpen matchup.
