Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Wednesday 7/26/23
Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.
This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.
The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out numberFire's daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.
Let's look at the top stacks for this main slate.
San Francisco Giants
Implied Total: 4.99 | Opposing Pitcher: Hogan Harris
Gonna start with this -- the Atlanta Braves have the night's top implied total (5.47), and they are going to attract a lot of attention on this six-game slate. However, I'm not super into them because I think Brayan Bello is a pretty good pitcher, with his 55.7% ground-ball rate a particular concern of mine when it comes to stacking the Braves. Atlanta is also up there in salary.
If you want to load up on the Braves, go for it -- it's never a bad idea, really -- but the San Francisco Giants are the offense I most want pieces of tonight.
They carry the slate's second-best implied total (4.99) into a date with southpaw Hogan Harris, and the Giants have no one salaried over $3,100. San Francisco can be a headache to stack due to how often they pinch-hit for starters, but I think they are worth the hassle tonight.
From the group of Wilmer Flores ($3,100), J.D. Davis ($3,000), Austin Slater ($2,800), Patrick Bailey ($2,800) and Luis Matos ($2,500), you can craft an economical four-player stack. All of them will have the platoon advantage versus Harris, who has surrendered a 45.3% fly-ball rate to righties.
Lefties Mike Yastrzemski ($2,900) and Michael Conforto ($2,900) are viable, too, considering Harris owns a mere 17.1% strikeout rate in lefty-lefty spots, although it's a very small sample.
New York Yankees
Implied Total: 4.62 | Opposing Pitcher: Jose Quintana
Much has been made about how bad the New York Yankees' offense has been without Aaron Judge, and it's all warranted. The Bronx Bombers have stunk without their star man.
However, I think they can be productive tonight at home versus Jose Quintana. The veteran left-hander has thrown only five MLB innings this season due to injury, but a year ago, he registered a meh 20.2% strikeout rate across 165 2/3 frames. On a night without many offensive spots we can get excited about, I'm cool with targeting a low-K pitcher in a homer-friendly park, and as a bonus, the Yanks have no one salaried over $3,000.
Giancarlo Stanton ($3,000) is the obvious option from New York. He's a game-best +320 to hit a homer, per the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. In a small sample, he's killed it versus lefties this season, posting a .417 wOBA, 50.0% hard-hit rate and 2.8% strikeout rate -- yes, 2.8% -- over 36 plate appearances. Obviously, we shouldn't overreact to 36 plate appearances, but there's a reason Stanton's home run odds are as short as they are.
Gleyber Torres ($3,000), Anthony Volpe ($2,700), Harrison Bader ($2,900), Oswald Peraza ($2,300), Isiah Kiner-Falefa ($2,200) and DJ LeMahieu ($2,500) are all listed as expected starters and will hit from the right side. Peraza is projected to be atop the order, and if he winds up there, he's a smashing value at his salary. Volpe hasn't yet fully delivered on his prospect pedigree, but he's a solid source of power (13 jacks) and speed (18 steals). He's also got a 44.9% fly-ball rate against lefties.
