Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

NHL Prop Bets
Brock Boeser To Score a Goal (+155)
The Vancouver Canucks have a 3.35 implied goal total against the lowly Chicago Blackhawks, in what should be a lopsided matchup.
Over the last three weeks, the Blackhawks have allowed 2.86 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the sixth-worst in the league. That's what we've come to expect from the Blackhawks over the last few seasons and it holds true to this day.
As a team, the Canucks have scored 195 goals in 53 games this season, which is good for the second-most in the NHL. To see them win this game with a final score of 5-1 or 5-2, wouldn't be a surprise.
This leads me to Brock Boeser, who comes in with 23 shots on goal and 3 goals over his last 10 games. However, those three goals all came in the same game, meaning he's been held without a goal in nine of his last 10 games.
That is rather surprising for a player with 30 goals on the season while seeing time on the first forward line and the first power-play unit. Given this soft matchup, Boeser has a prime chance to finally find the back of the net.
Roman Josi Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-106)
When it comes to shots on goal by a defenseman, Roman Josi is the gold standard.
Josi comes in averaging 3.2 shots on goal per game, which is also the highest for any defender in the league. He's a high-volume shooter and that should be on display tonight when the Nashville Predators play host to the New Jersey Devils.
Over the last three weeks, the Devils are allowing 64.39 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the eighth-worst in the league. During that same time, the Predators are generating 67.32 Total Shot Attempts in the same situations, which is the fifth-best in the league.
With the Devils on the second night of a back-to-back with travel, Josi and the Predators should be rested on home ice and ready to pile up the shots on goal.
Auston Matthews Over 4.5 Shots on Goal (-114)
With plenty of upside, Auston Matthews is always a viable option in the player prop market.
Matthews averages 4.13 shots on goal per game and is known for pushing well past that, giving us a high level of consistency and plenty of upside. We see that with the fact he's hit this mark in five of his last 10 games.
Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs are taking on the St. Louis Blues, in what could be a bit of a sloppy game. Over the last three weeks, both teams are in the bottom six of the league for Total Shot Attempts Allowed per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.
They don't apply a ton of pressure on defense and opposing offenses can generate plenty of chances. It also should be noted that the Leafs' best defender, Morgan Rielly, is due for a player safety hearing and is likely to be suspended.
This is important because Rielly leads the Leafs with over 24:00 minutes of ice time per game, often matched up against the opposing team's best offensive unit. So, the Leafs aren't great at preventing shot attempts to begin with and now could be missing their best defender.
This should put pressure on Matthews and the offense to generate some shots and out to a lead to take pressure off of the defense.
