3 NBA Star Player Prop Bets for Monday 2/5/24

Player props are a fun way to get involved with the NBA each night, especially when it comes to the game's elite players.

That's what we'll focus on here -- prop bets for the NBA's best players via FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA Star Player Props.

Using data -- including numberFire's daily basketball projections -- as a guide, here are some NBA player prop bets that look appealing via the NBA odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NBA Prop Picks

Trae Young Over 26.5 Points (-108)

The Los Angeles Clippers will visit the Atlanta Hawks tonight, and a game with a 4.0-point spread and 243.5 over/under could create the perfect scoring environment for Trae Young.

Young is averaging 27.3 points per game this season. He's eclipsed 26.5 points at a higher frequency (52.3%) than the implied 51.9% probability at -108, but I'm more interested in how Young has fared in previous high-scoring, close battles.

The Hawks have a 119.5 implied team total on tap for tonight. In 20 games this season where Atlanta has scored at least 119 points and the game's outcome was decided by 12 or fewer points, Young is averaging a whopping 31.95 points per contest. He shines in the projected environment for tonight's battle, and the Clippers should grant him a good enough matchup.

Los Angeles is surrendering the 13th-most free throw attempts (FTA) to guards per 36 minutes. Young nets 25.0% of his points from the foul line and ranks fifth (tied) in the league in FTA per game.

Over their last ten games, the Clippers have allowed opposing guards to score the 12th-most paint points per 36 minutes, which is the area where Young accumulates 29.3% of his points.

LAC boasts the 11th-best defensive rating in the league, so this is not to say they come into tonight with a weak defense. However, the Clippers are used to playing at a slow pace (fifth-slowest in NBA) while the Hawks are going at the fourth-fastest pace in basketball. A pace-up road game could lend itself to a more sacrificial than normal Clippers defense, so I like Young's chance to have a big night.

Zion Williamson Under 5.5 Rebounds (+100)

For as powerful as Zion Williamson is, he's not much of a rebounder.

Williamson has recorded under 5.5 rebounds in 58.9% of his games this season, which already makes the even money here worth a look.

But as of late, he's been even less of a factor on the boards. Williamson has eclipsed 5.5 rebounds in only 3 of his last 14 games, including just once in his last 8 games.

Tonight, he and the New Orleans Pelicans will take on the Toronto Raptors.

Following a January trade that sent Pascal Siakam packing, the Raptors became one of the more vulnerable teams on the boards. However, in that same span, Toronto's starting center Jakob Poeltl was out with an injury. The 7'0 foot Poeltl leads all Raptor players in rebounds, rebound chances, and contested rebounds per game.

Tonight will be Poeltl's third game back for Toronto, and he should continue to prove as a force. Plus, Jonas Valanciunas has taken on the lion's share of rebounding duties for this Pelicans team, averaging 16.7 rebound chances per game to Williamson's 10.3.

Williamson is clearing 5.5 rebounds on a very inconsistent basis. The interior rebounding battle will likely come between Poeltl and Valanciunas in this one, so I'll take the even money.

LeBron James Over 1.5 Made Threes (-136)

The Los Angeles Lakers will take on the struggling Charlotte Hornets tonight, and LeBron James seems primed to drain at least two three-pointers.

LeBron is averaging 2.2 three-point makes (3PM) per game this season. He has recorded over 1.5 made threes in 68.9% of his games (31 of 45). The -136 odds show us just a 57.6% implied probability, so I'm finding plenty of encouragement with the value here.

But beyond the fact that LeBron's 3PM hit rate is higher than the implied probability, this matchup is quite intriguing, too.

The Hornets have been surrendering the fifth-most 3PM to opposing teams this season. LeBron is shooting and making the majority of his threes from above the break, ranking second on the Lakers in this regard. Charlotte is allowing opponents to shoot the ball at a league-high 39.1% clip from above the break.

LeBron has played in 11 games against teams (including Charlotte) that currently rank in the top 10 of highest three-point percentage allowed to opponents; he drained at least two threes in all of these contests.

Add in that he's currently rocking with an eight-game streak of over 1.5 made threes, and I won't be fading LeBron tonight.
