MLB DFS Value Plays

Joc Pederson, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks ($2,700)

Joc Pederson ($2,700) will face one of his former teams tonight and comes in with a low salary. He's off to a great start to the season in his first year with the Arizona Diamondbacks with a .420 weighted on-base average (wOBA) through 41 games.

Pederson has always been a dangerous hitter against right-handed pitching. He has a career .356 wOBA when he has the platoon advantage. That number is up to .405 in a small sample this season.

Tonight, Pederson will face Gavin Stone of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Stone has a 4.80 skill interactive ERA (SIERA) and has allowed a .337 wOBA to left-handed batters.

If Pederson hits third in the lineup, he's definitely a nice value with upside to do damage tonight.

Ryan O'Hearn, 1B/OF, Baltimore Orioles ($2,800)

In a similar vein to Pederson, Ryan O'Hearn ($2,800) is a power hitter with the platoon advantage and a good lineup spot.

O'Hearn has been mashing this season. His .373 wOBA is impressive, but he's actually underperforming his expected wOBA (xWOBA) of .427. He's been making a lot of dangerous contact with a 12.2% barrel rate.

Lance Lynn will be on the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals to take on O'Hearn and the Baltimore Orioles. Lynn has allowed a 10.2% barrel rate this season while also allowing a .359 wOBA to lefties.

With the Orioles having an implied team total of 4.84 runs, getting O'Hearn at this salary is a nice way to get exposure to Baltimore.

Michael Massey, 2B, Kansas City Royals ($2,900)

The Kansas City Royals have been one of the best surprise teams in baseball, and their young hitters have a lot to do with it. Michael Massey ($2,900) is definitely one of them as he's having a nice season in his second full year in the majors.

Massey has cut down on his strikeout rate from 21.5% last season to 12.7% this season. He's also improved his wOBA from .283 to .341. Against righties, his wOBA is up to .351.

On Tuesday, Massey will face Casey Mize of the Detroit Tigers. Mize is having a good season but still has allowed a 45.0% hard-hit rate and has a strikeout rate of just 17.5%. This should allow Massey to put the ball in play -- and likely with force.

Massey should bat fifth in the Royals' lineup and is the best value under $3,000 at second base on this slate, per FanDuel Research's MLB projections.
