When it comes to contract demands in the NFL, things can sometimes get messy and result in a player holding out of team activities. Fortunately, the Minnesota Vikings no longer have to deal with that after reworking defensive end Danielle Hunter's deal.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that the Vikings and Hunter came to an agreement that would see the DE receive $5.6 million of his contract in a signing bonus this year. That means that he gets his money earlier than he normally would. Another addition to the contract sees Hunter set to receive an $18 million signing bonus on the fifth day of the 2022 league year.

The significant aspect of this part is that the Vikings can either keep him for $20 million on that date, sign him to a new deal or release him to free agency if they want to free up cap space. All in all, it's a rare win-win deal for both sides.

Minnesota Vikings News

While Hunter has been one of the Vikings' best defensive players in recent years, he missed the entirety of the 2020 season after undergoing neck surgery. To illustrate his impact, Minnesota went from allowing 19.4 points per game with Hunter in the lineup in 2019 (6th) to 29.7 without him last season (29th). Obviously, one player doesn't make an entire defense, but the difference shows that he was missed in 2020.

In the 2019 NFL season, Hunter was named to the Pro Bowl. He finished that campaign with 70 total tackles, 14.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. If he manages to return to that form in 2021, Minnesota could start seeing some success again.

Unfortunately for fans of the team, the Vikings are longshots to win Super Bowl 56. FanDuel Sportsbook has given them the 18th-best odds to go on a championship run at +4000. A healthy Hunter would go a long way in improving those odds.
