Outside of the Lombardi Trophy itself, one of the most prestigious awards on the line for this week's Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers showdown is the Super Bowl MVP award.

FanDuel Sportsbook has Super Bowl MVP odds available for a ton of players. One interesting dark-horse pick could be Bucs' pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul.

JPP's odds to win Super Bowl MVP are sitting at +8000, which have tied with KC's superstar DT Chris Jones for the 15th-best odds among all players. Oddly enough, Pierre-Paul is actually undefeated (7-0) in his postseason career, and he'll surely need to keep that streak alive in order to nab a Super Bowl MVP.

While this award almost always goes to quarterbacks, we've seen a couple of defenders take home the hardware in the past few seasons. In fact, a defender has won this award in two of the past seven Super Bowls.

But Pierre-Paul has a legit shot to become the third defender in the past eight years to be named Super Bowl MVP.

He's one of the Bucs' most consistently disruptive pass-rushers, tallying 9.5 sacks in 2020. He's also coming off a 2-sack performance in the NFC Championship Game. That could be a sign of things to come for JPP.

He took advantage of a matchup with a shorthanded Green Bay Packers' offensive line that was missing its best player in David Bakhtiari in that one. The Chiefs will face similar issues in Super Bowl LV. Kansas City is missing three starters along the O-Line from last year's Super Bowl-winning roster, including 2020 Pro Bowl LT Eric Fisher and 2018 first-team All-Pro RT Mitchell Schwartz.

He's also someone who excels at making game-changing plays, having forced 4 fumbles in 2020. Likely matching up against backups, JPP has a real shot to win this award if he can make a big play in a big moment and generate consistent pressure on Patrick Mahomes.
