The wait for baseball is almost over, with the 2020 MLB season right around the corner. And taking a look at the latest odds can help paint a better picture of where everyone stands heading into the year.
Given how dominant he looked last year, it should come as no surprise that New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole (+280) is currently favored to win the AL Cy Young, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Cole finished second in voting for the award last season, ultimately losing to his former teammate Justin Verlander. Verlander checks in tied for the second-best odds at +800.
Despite failing to win the award, it was a fantastic year for Cole, who finished with a 2.50 ERA and 0.895 WHIP in 33 starts. It was deemed just short of Verlander's performance of a 2.58 ERA and 0.803 WHIP in 34 starts.
However, both pitchers could face some stiff competition from Chris Sale, who is tied with Verlander at +800. Sale had a 4.40 ERA last season, but these odds suggest he could be in for a bounce-back year in 2020.
Rounding out the top five, Blake Snell and Shane Bieber are tied for the fourth-best odds at +1100.
While Cole clearly has an early edge, these odds will surely continue to shift once the season kicks off.
