The Miami Marlins may be out of the postseason race, but that doesn't completely dull the importance of the remaining month on the MLB's 2021 schedule. This is an important time for the Marlins to take stock of what's on the roster and how to best address their needs moving forward.

One player who may not have that opportunity is outfielder Lewis Brinson. On Thursday night, Brinson left Miami's game against the Washington Nationals after a collision left him with a potential hand injury.

Lewis Brinson Injury Update

While attempting to make a catch, Brinson collided with Bryan De La Cruz. He was seen nursing the possible hand injury before getting lifted from the game early. It's a concerning sign and definitely injury news that Marlins fans should keep an eye on.

On the year, Brinson has been average across 61 appearances. He's slashing .239/.280/.426 with 7 home runs and 25 RBIs. That slash line is actually well above his career average and the speedy outfielder has taken a big step forward in his defense, particularly in center field. On the year, Brinson's recorded a 0.979 fielding percentage in center field, also a career high.

The Marlins will hope for a best-case scenario from Brinson's injury as they head into a three-game set with the Cincinnati Reds this weekend. Currently, Miami is +124 underdogs for the Friday night tilt, according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
