The Indianapolis Colts' backfield has been a mess for fantasy purposes in 2020. Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins have all taken turns serving as the Colts' lead back this season. Both Wilkins and Hines saw an increased opportunity in Week 12, with Taylor ruled out due to covid protocols.

However, now that Taylor is set to return in Week 13, it's tough to know which back to trust.

Jonathan Taylor Fantasy Outlook

Taylor is still the likeliest bet to handle lead back duties. The last time he took the field (Week 11), he handled 22 carries for 90 yards, adding 24 receiving yards on 4 catches. However, he had been held under 30 rushing yards in three consecutive games prior to that Week 11 blowup.

Facing a juicy matchup against the Houston Texans (No. 27 in Football Outsiders' rush defense DVOA metric), Taylor is probably the safest option in this backfield.

Nyheim Hines Fantasy Outlook

But Hines will play a part as well. Playing an increased role sans Taylor in Week 12, Hines turned 18 opportunities (targets plus carries) into 95 yards from scrimmage. He still projects to handle the majority of the pass-catching duties.

However, in a game that FanDuel Sportsbook lists Indianapolis as a 3.5-point favorite, those pass-catching opportunities could be a little tough to come by. Hines is a decent FLEX option in PPR formats, but he's significantly less valuable in standard-scoring leagues.

Jordan Wilkins Fantasy Outlook

Wilkins only handled 6 carries last week, but it's hard to make many judgements there as that game got out of hand pretty quickly. Still, he's only reached double-digit carries twice on the year, so he's not likely to be much more of a thorn in the side of Taylor managers.

He has some upside because the usage in this backfield can be unpredictable, but Wilkins is not someone you want to be starting unless you're truly desperate.
