Jaire Alexander is playing unbelievably well right now. The former Louisville Cardinal has been getting overshadowed by Aaron Rodgers and the dominant Green Bay Packers' offense, but he has been erasing people in coverage all year.
In fact, it's not a stretch to say the 23-year-old is the best cornerback in football, full stop.
Pro Football Focus certainly agrees with that sentiment. He's currently their highest graded cornerback, receiving a stellar 90.8 overall grade. That's a full 2.0 points higher than the second-place CB in that category (Jamel Dean, 88.8).
And among defensive players who have been on the field for at least 300 snaps this season, he's currently PFF's third highest-graded defender overall.
What he's doing is simply outrageous. He has been targeted 24 times this season, allowing just 14 receptions for 122 yards with 1 touchdown to 1 interception. Opposing quarterbacks have a 68.4 passer rating when targeting him this year, which would be the third-worst mark in the NFL among all starting quarterbacks.
It's not like he's doing it against weak competition, either. Alexander has faced the likes of Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Will Fuller, Calvin Ridley, Julio Jones and Adam Thielen, just to name a few.
It's clear he's going to be the cornerstone of this Packers' defense for a long time to come. That's a tough break for the rest of the NFC North.
