The Miami Dolphins have been one of the most fascinating teams in the league this offseason. Armed with a war chest of draft assets, an already-elite defense and a talented young QB with some question marks, Miami can go in a lot of different directions.
But according to NFL insider Peter King, Miami might be making a surprising selection at No. 6 in the 2021 NFL Draft.
King has Miami staying put at No. 6 and selecting Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Waddle is generally believed to be the third- or fourth-best pass-catcher in this class, so picking him at No. 6 could be viewed as a bit of a reach.
But it's more probable than you might think.
Kyle Pitts has been heavily linked to the Atlanta Falcons at No. 4, and Ja'Marr Chase could be headed to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 5. Assuming Miami is targeting a playmaker at No. 6, that would likely leave the Dolphins to decide between Waddle or his Alabama teammate Devonta Smith.
If the top-five picks play out that way, the odds suggest Waddle could be the pick. FanDuel Sportsbook's match bet odds list Waddle as a -148 favorite to come off the board ahead of Smith (+116).
An absolute burner, drafting Waddle would give Miami one of the most dangerous WR trios in the league, pairing him with DeVante Parker and Will Fuller.
Don't be surprised to see Miami spend its first-round pick on Waddle come Thursday night.
