When Deebo Samuel broke his foot over the summer, the general consensus was that he wouldn't return to the field until midway through the year. However, it appears his rehab is going quite well, and there's even a chance that he'll be back much sooner than expected.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan sounded cautiously optimistic when discussing Samuel's recovery timeline, saying:

We're hoping for Week 1. Not counting on it... But I think that's kind of the area these injuries usually heal by.

It's probably unrealistic to expect him back that quickly, as even Shanahan seemed to have some reservations about it. But the fact that Samuel seems to be trending in the right direction is huge for his fantasy football outlook.

Samuel currently carries an average draft position (ADP) of WR35, according to FantasyPros. If he's able to suit up within the first three weeks of the season, he could be an absolute steal at that price.

He started slow last year, as rookies tend to do, but once he got comfortable he was a force. Samuel was the WR8 in PPR formats from Week 8-17. He also could be seeing a serious uptick in volume if healthy, as Emmanuel Sanders saw 53 targets across 10 games with the team, and he has since signed with the New Orleans Saints.

Even with all that upside, though, foot injuries can be scary for wide receivers. Samuel is a high-risk, high-reward option, and we have him as the No. 85 overall player in our 2020 fantasy football rankings.
