The Las Vegas Raiders have been getting some attention as of late, but not exactly for the most positive of reasons. Sixth-year tight end Darren Waller hasn't practiced with the team since August 9 and there's yet to be a reason given. Well, his absence has extended to eight days now, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. Considering how Waller is the straw that stirs the drink in Las Vegas' offensive, it's understandable that this news is concerning to Raiders fans everywhere.

Darren Waller Injury Update

The silver lining to the situation is that it's not like nobody knows where Waller is. He's still been showing up to Allegiant Stadium on the sidelines and working with the trainers, according to multiple beat reporters. Had he suffered a serious injury, the team would likely be upfront about it, so the thought is that it's a minor issue until further news. Still, if his absence continues, more people will question the severity of the injury —regardless of what it is.

At the end of the day, the Raiders would prefer if Waller missed no time at all since he's the No. 1 piece in their offense. The former 2015 sixth-round pick broke out in 2019 and has been one of the best tight ends in football ever since. He's played in all 32 of Las Vegas' games over the past two seasons, recording 197 receptions for 2,341 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. That level of production will be hard to replace.

The Raiders are projected to finish the 2021 campaign towards the bottom of the standings, which is why they'll need Waller to miss as few games as possible if he needs to sit out at all. Las Vegas has +7500 odds to win Super Bowl 56, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which puts them in a tie for 25th with the Philadelphia Eagles.
