When a solid fantasy football commodity goes down, there's usually a rush to pick up his backup on the waiver wire. That didn't happen when Dallas Cowboys tight end Blake Jarwin tore his ACL, however, as backup Dalton Schultz is owned in just 2 percent of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues.

But it looks like the public might've been wrong about Schultz. He was stellar in his first game as Dallas' starter, and he has a shot to return low-end TE1 value the rest of the way if he gets a few breaks.

Dalton Schultz Fantasy Outlook

Schultz saw a team-high 10 targets against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. He turned that volume into 9 catches for 88 yards, scoring Dak Prescott's lone passing touchdown of the day.

While the performance was encouraging, fantasy managers shouldn't overreact too much. Prior to this week, Schultz had a career 133 receiving yards through two NFL seasons. Expecting him to suddenly produce week in and week out is unlikely, at best.

He's also stuck playing behind four pass-catchers who all appear to be firmly ahead of him in the pecking order. Schultz just won't see reliable volume while competing with Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb and Ezekiel Elliott.

Schultz isn't worth rostering quite yet, aside from deeper formats. But he's certainly worth keeping an eye on. Another big game in Week 3 could have him as one of our top waiver wire adds this time next week.
