The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be shorthanded on both sides of the ball when they host the Los Angeles Rams in NFL Week 9 action. The Athletic's Greg Auman reports that Bucs head coach Todd Bowles has ruled out the following players for this Sunday's pivotal NFC showdown:

  • Antoine Winfield, Safety (Concussion)
  • Cameron Brate, Tight End (Neck)
  • Russell Gage, Wide Receiver (Hamstring)
  • Luke Goedeke, Offensive Guard (Foot)

Buccaneers Injury Report

Buccaneers fans are bound to be disappointed by this news, especially regarding Brate and Gage. Both pass-catchers returned to practice on Thursday, but clearly their respective recoveries haven't progressed as hoped.

The good news is that Bowles didn't rule out wide receivers Mike Evans and Julio Jones, who've both been dealing with their own ailments. Barring any setbacks, quarterback Tom Brady will likely have both weapons at his disposal.

Nevertheless, Goedeke's absence will be felt on offense. Tampa Bay's offensive line has already been a mess this season, allowing Brady to face pressure on 14.1% of dropbacks compared to 11.1% in 2021. Without Goedeke, the rest of the Buccaneers' linemen must step up to handle the likes of Aaron Donald, Bobby Wagner and Leonard Floyd.

While Winfield's update is also quite disheartening, it isn't all bad. Concussions are hard to shake and he did manage to practice at times throughout the week. His absence is likely a precaution and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him return during Week 10.

While the Buccaneers are clearly banged up and have lost five of their last six games, they're still favored by 3 points at home against the Rams on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
