Austin Ekeler fantasy football owners were given a scare earlier this week when the Los Angeles Chargers running back missed two practices with a hamstring issue. Fortunately, those worries were washed away when Ekeler was back practicing with the Chargers on Friday.

Austin Ekeler Fantasy Outlook

Injuries held Ekeler to just 10 games played in 2020. He still finished his fourth NFL campaign with over 500 rushing yards and 400 receiving yards while scoring a combined 3 touchdowns. He ranked as RB35 in PPR scoring, which was disappointing compared to the previous season that saw him end as RB7.

Assuming he stays healthy, there's no reason to believe why Ekeler can't finish as a top-10 running back in the 2021 NFL season.

While he's a competent rusher, he truly excels in the pass-catching game. His 2,079 receiving yards since 2017 rank fourth among running backs during that span, and his 16 touchdowns through the air are tied for the most at his position.

With that being said, Ekeler is in for a stiff test against the Washington Football Team this Sunday. Washington's defense surrendered 0.9 rushing touchdowns (T-10th) and 114.5 rushing yards (15th) per game last year.

Washington also limited running backs to just 379 receiving yards (fourth fewest in the league) all season, which might throw a wrench into Ekeler's production.

Nevertheless, Ekeler is still Los Angeles' No. 1 running back and should see a lot of action, regardless of the game script. If you have him on your team, there's no reason not to start him given his role as a focal point of the offense who should rack up receptions.
